Description I thought for a long time about "Becoming" - a forum "theme of the month". I didn't necessarily want to take the line I'd seen other people do - something becoming something else. So I thought of doing a big Celtic thing with strands weaving themselves up into a big spiral thing. But I quickly got fed up of spirals doing something else. I don't like them much.

Then I looked at the Kingston brooch ([link] ), which is Celtic aged but uses techniques akin to cloisonnΓ©, and started getting interested in how forms can proceed from one medium to another. Stone carving to jewellery or paintings, flat techniques to embossed ones; the same types of decoration flowing through them all.

And that's how I chose to interpret "Becoming" here. Paper becoming art, lines being coloured, undersketches mutating into final versions, Celtic concepts into mosaics (if only 2D mosaics).

I'm not sure if that's the way I was supposed to interpret it, but it's what came to me. And I hope the explanation makes sense!

Really lovely intricate work, and so interesting to see the structure.

This looks great, and I love it even more because it's not finish - don't know why though.

I love it. When can you start working on my giant mosaic floor? What really makes this is its incompleteness...it is truly still becoming.

Simply beautiful. It's interesting to see it unfinished like that, it kind of looks like it's thousands of years old and has been neglected. Wonderful stuff as usual

I think I love your concept more than the actual drawing itself, which is saying something since the drawing is fantastic.

I see a picture of progress at work. I think you took that theme and ran with it. Kudos

Wow, that's wonderful! I think your interpretation is even better than "something becoming something else". That would be a metamorphosis. You truly captured the growing, developing and becoming.^^

Thank you dear! I'm really truly surprised at how many people like this, and have said really nice things about it. I don't know why I'm surprised, I guess it's just something I didn't put my heart into, just my ideas for John's theme. Maybe that's a good thing though, I need to get truly into professional thinking!

That happens to me so often. I do something I don't really like and everyone adores it. And when I am really happy about something, it doesn't get much of a reaction

Ooohhh, wow. Even the thumbnail really caught my eye. I really like how you interpreted the theme - I think 'becoming' and 'changing' or 'transforming' are pretty different things. I've also always liked artwork that is deliberately, tastefully "unfinished" and not overworked, so you can guess at some of the skill and love that goes into it.... something I haven't ever been able to quite incorporate into my own work, so I'm a little envious of this. Faving it because it's lovely, and in hopes it will inspire me. ^^

Very good! Somehow it reminded of Escher's work, with stuff changing into other stuff around a circle.

This is beautiful, and I love the idea as well. It's a great interpretation of 'becoming'!
