Description This is based on French Revolutionary costume from the 1790's, complete with a red ribbon necklace and a Phrygian cap. The red ribbon around the waist is wrapped and tied in a manner that:
1. Took a lot of research to figure out.
2. Stays in place when the figure wearing it has arms.
3. Looks really neat from the back.
4. Kept falling off of the dress form.
The whole thing had to be pinned on, so I apologize if it looks a little funny because of it.

Made and designed by me. 2007

Your clothing and costumes are so inspiring; I especially love this design because Liberty is such an important figure to me. Every detail of this one is stunning. The Phrygian cap and the red white and blue color scheme make it really authentic and beautiful. The draping is gorgeous. Thank you so much for sharing this!

Oh, this is gorgeous. Something you'd expect to see in Les Miz.

That is made of epic win. LibertΓ©, EgalitΓ©, FraternitΓ© indeed! I hadn't heard of the red ribbon necklace style before- that's highly amusing. It's a lovely costume, and I do love the way the ribbon is wrapped, and am thoroughly impressed with the whole thing.

Thank you so much!

I really should re-do the drape one of these days in something much less flashy, but the damask is so pretty that I hate to swap it out.

The red ribbon choker was a fairly short lived, quite morbid fashion statement from the time. It seemed like it would make a fitting accessory to the costume.

You're welcome! The damask is lovely. Maybe you can have two drapes, and toss one over a curtain rod in a decorative manner when you're not using it.

I think it's quite perfect, and darkly amusing. I shall have to add it to my list of amusing historical fashion trivia, right under the "Gates of Hell" sideless surcote.

That's a good idea...

And, you know, now I think one of those will have to go on my list of things to make.

Yay! I win.

Ooh. Fun. I've always wanted a sideless surcote, though probably not one quite that revealing.

I that what the lady in you icon is wearing?

Yep, pretty much. The costume was based off French Revolutionary era depictions of Liberty, with a few choice period fashion statements worked in (like the red ribbon) but no one seemed to figure it out when I wore the costume, since it's not green...

My icon is part of a pastel sketch I did a while ago based on the lady Liberty that graced the face of the Franc, before the Euro came about.

I love it! With the red ribbon it looks very beautiful.

Thank you! It's based off of a short-lived and rather morbid fashion trend from the 1790's, as is the red ribbon necklace (which had longer lasting popularity). It's a fun costume to wear, even if no one around here seems to understand what it is. If I'd made it tarnished copper green, and carried a book and torch, they might... *shrugs*

You're welcome! Historical fashion has been my great interest, from the age of 14 or so until now, so I can dork out on it fairly extensively.

I'll remember My interest for it started just some years ago. Before I had just eyes for armoury...
