PERSONALITY .
COMPETITIVE
Theia forever strives to be the best at everything that she possibly can be. She makes just about anything into a competition if she can; from light-hearted debates to shopping trips to applause. She loathes anything that she can’t seem to excel at, and will easily become discouraged after several failures. She rarely holds it against another equine if they happen to be better than her, but she will just about break herself in her attempts to eventually overcome them in skill. This trait is less pronounced for more minor battles that she chooses to pick; however, when it comes to talents that she’s aware of possessing and has been praised for, she will struggle to improve for as long as it takes in order to reassure herself of her skill.
TENACIOUS
Perhaps her competitive nature determines her stubbornness, but even if it is completely unrelated, Theia rarely backs down from a fight and finds it difficult to accept when she’s wrong. Particularly when injured or sick, she refuses to slow down for long enough to heal, no matter how many healers tell her to do so. She tends to challenge wiser horses with questions to the point of being aggravating and even looking foolish, but only after someone has earned her respect will she cease to bombard them with provocation.
ENERGETIC
There’s no stopping for this little mare. It’s possible that everything she eats gets transformed into instantaneous energy stores which are seemingly infinite. Theia becomes hoppity and sulky when forced to stay still for too long, much preferring to trot and prance around. Despite having a fairly active career that allows her to exert herself, she still seems to have energy left over at the end of the day, and it takes quite a bit to exhaust her.
CHILDISH
It can be somewhat difficult to tell if Theia is inherently childish or if she simply doesn’t care much for filters. She’s somewhat naïve and doesn’t seem to recognize dangerous situations for what they are, but she’s not completely unintelligent when it comes to her thirst for knowledge. She enjoys hearing stories and reciting them herself. She has a particular fondness for legends pertaining to the gods and the history of Aquore. She also appreciates simple, beautiful things, such as flowers, nature, wildlife, and the intricate hairstyles of higher ranking equines. She’s easily distracted by anything that glitters or sparkles or chimes, and will often find herself late to appointments due to getting side tracked by a faint melody in the opposite direction from where she should be headed.
IMPULSIVE
Theia is known for following her heart without thinking too much of the consequences of her actions. She has a short temper and a sharp tongue, and often forgets herself when faced with authority. Once she gets caught up in a conversation that has her blood bubbling, she can often forget to bite her tongue and act outside of proper conduct. Contrarily, her spontaneity can be an asset, as she’ll often step outside of her comfort zone in order to pursue some adventure, great or small.
DEPENDENT
Theia is horribly reliant on the appreciation and reassurance of others. She’s capable of living on her own and taking care of herself, but she requires attention and validation from those around her or else she can become hesitant and withdrawn. Without encouragement, she questions her actions, which leads to a sort of cowardice and timidity that doesn’t suit her. Similarly, she’s abhorrent at accepting criticism, and either becomes aggressive or will completely shut down depending on whether a stranger dares to critique her or if a friend gently points out a flaw in herself or her skills.
HISTORY .
Many years before Theia's birth, Acalan and Tlalli were fastened with gold and pearls and bound into a marriage that neither of them had chosen, but neither of them were against. Their families were friends; Acalan came from a family mostly comprised of agriculturists, and Tlalli's parents were both craftsmen who often did business with Acalan's sire and dam. As they were of similar ages, they often saw each other in their youths, and when they were told that they were to be married at twenty, they were grateful to be unified with a close friend instead of a complete stranger.
Their marriage was built on love; perhaps not romantically so, but they care for each other so deeply that many assume that they've fallen in love somewhere along the way. Perhaps this is true. Their children have never asked, believing it to be rude to question such things. At any rate, they're just happy that their parents are happy.
About a year after their marriage, Tlalli became pregnant with her first child, a filly who earned her father's height and a great deal of affection. Some years later, the family accepted a gangly colt, and then two more. A natural mother, Tlalli rejoiced in her children, and gave them all the love that her small frame possibly could. Her children often outgrew her at a rapid rate, yet she would still baby them in all ways that she could. Acalan spent as much time with his sons and daughter as he could, yet the number of mouths to feed determined that he was often busy toiling away on fields, the sun hot on his back.
Much sooner than Tlalli would have liked, her first foal and only daughter was ready to move on from her apprenticeship and earn her title as a craftsman. She was equal parts sorrowful and excited for Amara's success, but she didn't have much time to mourn the loss of her daughter's dependence before Theia was born, formed of silver and gold.
Quickly dubbed the baby of the family, Theia grew up with doting brothers happy to look out for their tiny sister and a mother who, now old enough that she was hesitant to have anymore children, spoiled her with castaway scraps of material that couldn't be used by herself or her friends. Her father, once again having a little filly to spoil, brought home wildflowers cleared from fields, his hair a little greyer in some places.
And so that was how she grew up. She never had the chance to get to know Amara well; in just a few years, her only sister moved in with a chosen husband. Her two elder brothers she watched with teary eyes as they moved up in ranks and eventually went onto their own houses and their own brides, yet she still visits them as often as she can, trying her best to be a welcome guest of their wives. Tenoch, still unmarried but a rather successful brewer, remains her closest friend and confidant, just as he always was when they were younger.
Theia's own path was paved and gilded, carved out in the simplest fashion possible. Her boundless energy and wide, imploring eyes had her parents searching for an apprenticeship position for her as an entertainer, though her father offered on several occasions to find her a place underneath a florist or botanist where she would surely excel. When she was about 7, they found an entertainer willing to take her under her wing, and after several years of equal parts strict training and equal parts enjoyment, she began to perform more often on her own or with peers other than her own mentor.
Although she's far from finished learning, Theia now takes her education upon herself, and has been wandering a little farther and farther from the heart of Inaria every day in search of new stories and new inspirations for her art.
