Physical Description:
Ali is a relatively tall mare with a long neck and small head. She has bright, light green eyes. She has a flaxen mane and tail with tips bleached naturally from the sun, styled into dreadlocks. Many in Talori would say this makes her look unkempt and undesirable. But in her line of work as a florist/gardener/naturist/agriculturalist, her hair used to get caught in all manner of twigs, branches, and vines. Very inconvenient. Ali's dreadlocks also give her a sense of uniqueness, a trait she feels lacking in because of being a common horse. Ali's spots didn't appear until she was a yearling/teenager.
When Ali is working as a florist or in her Aunt's garden, she usually wears flowers in her hair and protective wraps around her legs for those more thorny plants. When making floral deliveries to homes, Ali will dress up with simple accessories, fancier flower hair arrangements, and a cloak if the weather is bad. In the future she wants to get ear peircings and maybe try some hair dye. She likes to wear a blend of blues and greens. Flowers designs can be changed as Ali wears different ones everyday.

<< | Personality | >>
Caring | Enthusiastic | Open-Minded | Whimsical | Emotional | Absent-minded | Carefree | Tactless | Submissive
Caring: displaying kindness and concern for others.
“You look stressed. Are you stressed? Do you want to take a mud bath with me after work this afternoon? It’s really relaxing and it has all sorts of good stuff for your coat. I’m not sure what though but that’s what horses smarter than me say. How about a walk around my Aunt’s garden? It’s not big and fancy like the ones on the big-wig estates, but the flowers smell pretty. Stopping to smell the flowers always make me feel better.”
Enthusiastic: having or showing intense and eager enjoyment, interest, or approval.
Ali has an energetic, bright, bubbly personality in social settings and is always the first to introduce herself. "Hi, I'm Ali. Do you like flowers? I LOVE flowers. You look like a forsythia kind-of horse. It means anticipation because it's tiny yellow flowers bloom in early spring. I'm told it's good for fevers and headaches. Do you have a headache? Probably from me talking so much, huh? Hahaha. Aren’t I funny?"
Open-minded: willing to consider new ideas; unprejudiced.
Ali is open-minded and go-with-the-flow kind of horse (to a rational point.) As a Pegasus sympathizer, Ali is much friendlier with them compared to some, but does not support the rebellion and the death and destruction it brings. She’s very excepting of horses, unicorns, Pegasus, and hippocampi from all walks of life, even if she doesn’t exactly agree with how they might live their lives.
Whimsical: playfully quaint or fanciful, especially in an appealing and amusing way.
"You see this lily here? It reminds me of sunsets off the peach orchard dunes during harvest season. Everything looks orange, smells orange, taste orange."
Emotional: the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.
Because of her caring nature, Ali is sensitive thus causing her to be emotional at times. Tell her of a death in your family and she will cry harder than you. Tell her of birth in your family and she’ll be so jovial, you would think the newborn was her’s. And when and if she ever enters into a relationship, she would likely be the more affectionate of the two and the one to get scolded for PDA.
Absent-minded: (of a person or a person's behavior or manner) having or showing a habitually forgetful or inattentive disposition.
“I know I completed your order, ma’am, but I just don’t remember where I put it? It was the lilacs with the orange and yellow begonias, right? No? Oh, the one with Wisteria, Irises, Columbine, and Roses? No wonder I can’t find it.”
Carefree: free from anxiety or responsibility.
"Don't worry about a thing
'Cause every little thing gonna be alright"She basically lives by Hakuna Matata. "If the floral orders don't get done by today, there's always tomorrow. Don't stress about it. There's more to life than work. Take a load off. Put up your feet. Take a Raitha class."
Tactless: having or showing a lack of adroitness and sensitivity in dealing with others or with difficult issues.
Because Ali is quite the fast talker, she will sometimes say insensitive things before her brain has a chance to catch up. She never really means what she says, and is always quick to apologize and shower the victim with the nearest flower crowns she has laying around. Her Aunt’s floral shop has lost a few of their more sensitive customers because of Ali’s quick tongue.
Submissive: ready to conform to the authority or will of others; meekly obedient or passive.
In a society ruled by Hippocampi, Ali at times feels put down and non-superior being un-unique as a common horse. Even though she has her own beliefs and morals, she doesn’t have the backbone to stand up for them publicly (at least the ones that go against Talori law.) She’s always the first to back down in confrontation. Probably taken advantage of a lot by bullies in her foalhood and teenage years because of this as well as possible mild sexual harassment. Her bubbly personality may be the mask she’s developed to hide all of this.
<< | History| >>
Foalhood:
Ali's parents were agriculturalists from a large, impoverished family of farmers in Misthollow. They had a love affair at an early age and married young, much to the family's disapproval. Her parents dabbled in herbal drugs on the side to make more money. It is speculated that part of the reason behind Ali's loony behaviors is because her mother consumed hallucinogens while pregnant. After getting caught selling and using illegal drugs, Ali's parents decided to move to the Isles of the Dead, leaving their newborn daughter with her mother's sister, Aunt Phoebe, on the mainland to give her the chance of a better, normal life. (There's a very big possibility that Ali has younger siblings that she doesn't know about that were born after her parents moved to the Isles.)
When Ali first moved in with her Aunt Phoebe, she was very quiet and shy, like a hermit crab withdrawn into it's shell. Aunt Phoebe lived in the Brewer and Agriculturalist District in Inaria, and, as a farm girl, Ali wasn't used to smells, noises, and all the equines bustling about. Rather than constantly pestering Ali, Aunt Phoebe went about her daily house routine with cheerful repose, humming, dancing about, leaving little gifts for Ali like flower crowns, tarts, and poorly hand-made figures that were ment to look more ridiculous than realistic. The little hermit crab came out of her shell and hasn’t stopped smiling since.
As a foal, Ali was always running around with leaves, twigs, and mud through her coat as she eagerly explored the outside world. She would try to mimic the bouquets that her Aunt Phoebe made using wild flowers and weeds. To make sure the sins of the father and mother didn’t become the sins of the daughter, Aunt Phoebe taught Ali at an early age the Talori laws, as well as their family’s patron goddess, Kaia, and the goddess of the Talori herd, Cascade. When she tried to discourage Ali from making friends with pegasi, Ali replied, “But Aunt Phoebe, you said that according to Kaia, we're supposed to be compassionate to all horses.”
Teens:
Ali continues to develop friendships with horses from all walks of life: plain, feathered, finned, or horned. As her fellow teenagers started to care more about status quo, she lost a few friends that didn't care of her taste in "feathered companions." Probably taken advantage of a lot by bullies in teenage years because of her submissive nature as well as possible mild sexual harassment. Her bubbly personality may be the mask she’s developed to hide all of this. She often got in trouble for wearing flowers in her hair or flower crowns outside of the house, as Tenderfeet in the Talori herd are not allowed to wear accessories.
At this time, Aunt Phoebe started to let Ali help around the floral shop (Phoebe's Floral Delights) and taught her how to tend to some of the common plants in The Hedge, her flower and water garden open to the public. As a student, Ali could never quite get the hang of studying, but Aunt Phoebe wasn’t too concerned about it since she knew that a more studious talent was not Ali’s calling. She focused more of her efforts on having Ali learn more practical life skills and basic Naturist knowledge when it came to flowers. While Ali struggled to memorize dates and names in Talori history, she absorbed all flower and plant based knowledge up like a sponge.
"Flower arranging is also an art in which great pride is taken. Specific colors, flowers, and arrangements have different meanings, and bouquets are often given in place of a formal note or message."
Young Adult:
Ali does most of the deliveries for the floral shop now, although Aunt Phoebe will go with her if it’s for an important customer to make sure she doesn’t accidently insult them with her tactless banter. She's still learning some of the finer points of gardening, but Ali's able to grow and care for the more common plant species. Aunt Phoebe has also put Ali in charge of floral hair accessories as Ali has a special talent for them. They are currently trending with the young mares in the community.
Ali has been studying about Kaia lately, desiring the blessing of plant manipulation. While she hasn't been spending any long periods of time making devotions to Kaia, she does stop for a quick prayer at any local Kaia shrines whenever she happens to go by. There's also an abstract Kaia prayer idol out in their flower garden created by a local craftsmen.
Aunt Phoebe says Ali reminds her of the sparkling, jewel-like beads of light reflecting off the sea surf on a glorious summer’s day – so bright, warm, and happy that it makes others smile while being very free flowing with that look of untamed beauty. But Aunt Phoebe is growing concerned about Ali "securing" her future. The young mare is now 25 years old with no previous courtship history of any kind. Aunt Phoebe would prefer for Ali to marry for love, and not an arranged partner. But Aunt Phoebe is not getting any younger, and she won't be around forever to help guide her absent-minded niece. And with all the violence and unrest of the Flight rebellion, it would give Aunt Phoebe peace of mind knowing that Ali had a caring protector to look after her if something unfortunate were to happen to Aunt Phoebe. She may have to start a search for potential suitors soon.
Winter 1700: Taken as a "prisoner" for her "safety" in Torrine for being a known pegasus sympathizer (having an abnormally large amount of pegasi friends) and not quite fitting the “mold” of what a model citizen should look like in Talori. She was an emotional wreck when she was first taken to the island. It was Ali's first time being alone, without her family. She missed her Aunt and hoped her Aunt was able to operate her floral shop without Ali. She tried to keep up her usually enthusiastic, bubbly personality to encourage positive morale amongst the other horses. But when alone in her little designated hut, Ali shivered in fear of the unknown and sobbing from overwhelming emotions. A few kind souls who arrived with Ali, knowing her from before as a bright, happy mare and friend to the pegasi community are trying to comfort and take care of the young mare as best they can, taking her under their wings until she's back on her own hooves.
Spring 1700: As the Flight continued to rebel against the Talori, Ali's stay in Torrine looked as if it wasn't going to be a short one. She's regained her composure, although she's a little more quiet and serious than her normal self. But with the coming of spring meant FLOWERS!!! Making do with the few flowering shrubberies that can be found on this rocky mud pit, Ali attempted to create her first flower garden. Maybe it will bring a little cheer to the other prisoners stuck with her.
Summer 1700: Ali is released from Torrine along with the other inhabitants as a sign of good faith. She’s a bit regretful about leaving her little budding garden behind, but the guardians promised to water it for her (they're a pretty decent bunch of guys and gals.) She encouraged all of the new friends she made at Torrine to visit the floral shop. Ali has been sticking to her Aunt like a clingy Koala Bear since she got back, and she has all sort so ideas on expanding their garden. But there was some shady horses coming into the shop that Ali suspected were from the Flight. She just ignored their advances of “donations for the cause” and pestered them about their favorite color, what flowers go with their complexion etc until they left. Ali didn’t want to separated from her Aunt again.
Fall 1700: When the Flight attacked, Ali and her aunt escape into the nearby Wilds and become part of a small group of horses taking refuge at a mysterious hidden temple. Ali was happy to find her cousin Roxanne there, as well as a few other familiar faces. The plant knowledge of the florists have assisted the group in finding food as well as herbs for frequently occurring injuries, for the jungle is a dangerous place. Ali often volunteers to go out to gather food because her quick speed allows her to outrun most predators she encounters and her strong vitality ensures that she will heal quickly if she does injure herself. Although Aunt Phoebe worries about her niece's safety, she knows that it's for the survival of the group.
Ali is absolutely fascinated by the strange and unique Kirin that has appeared in their midst. At first her curious, outgoing nature had her pestering him almost as much as the tenderfeet. But seeing that he was a closed off individual, Ali reined herself back in and made herself content with leaving him little bouquets to liven up his cave in hopes that the gesture might sway him to open up more.
There's gardens surrounding the Temple and Ali has happily taken on the task of caring for it in all of her free time. It's quite a project as it hasn't been tended in years and the jungle has started to take it over. But you know Ali and flowers. She can't resist.
Winter 1701 (in game): While Talorians took back their homeland, Ali and her friends who had been living in the Wilds formed a search and rescue party. Ali played a key role in finding philosopher, Ysolda, and assisting in her rescue and after-care.
Ali and her Aunt Phoebe moved back into to the capital and tried to pick up the pieces of their lives. A lot of work had to be done to get their flower business going again with everything grown over from 6 months of neglect. It was a hard time for all, and Ali helped out her neighbors and friends when she could. She was happy for the new equal rights granted to her pegasus friends and sad for the Emperor's passing. But it looks to be the start of a bright, new beginning for Talori.
Once things settled down, Ali and Aunt Phoebe made the long trip down to Misthollow to check on the family. Communication had been very difficult during the rebellion and they hadn't heard from Ali's grandparents/ Aunt Phoebe's parents in a while. Ali reunited with the the elephant of her childhood, Big Mama. That whole day they didn't leave each other's side, Big Mama's trunk constantly playing with Ali's hair. The two refused to be separated at the end of their visit, not leaving Aunt Phoebe with much choice but to let Ali bring Big Mama back to the capital. They would find room for her, somehow.
The elephant quickly grew to love her new life at the florist shop and garden, happy to be reunited with the now grown Ali. They cleared an end of one of their greenhouses for Big Mama to stay in. They are currently looking into getting a plot of land from the government to extend their current plot to provide more room for Big Mama. Ali is already scribbling out plans for an elephant sized house that they can all live in together. And then their current apartment in the back of their shop can have the walls torn down to expand the shop. Aunt Phoebe was ecstatic to discover that using elephant manure as a fertilizer greatly increased the growth and output of flowers in her garden and greenhouse. And Big Mama is very reliable guardian to keep an eye on/ protect Ali, allowing Aunt Phoebe to feel more confident about Ali going out and conducting business on her own.
Spring 1701: Didn't participate in chapter
Summer 1701: The girl's preparing for a wedding on the summer solstice!
Fall/Winter 1701: Ali was granted Kaia's blessing of Plant Manipulation.
<< | Other | >>
- Ali is very protective of her Aunt's little flower and water garden, The Hedge, that is open to the public, especially the flowers. It is not recommend for suitors to pluck(steal) flowers from the garden for their lovers if they don't want a chunk missing out of their tail and/ or ears via a tall, angry mare with dreadlocks. It's the only time she'll get physically aggressive. Ali loves playing cupid, and would be more than willing to give you a discount on a bouquet for your lover or even help setup a special suprise event in their garden if you only just ask. - Practices Raitha, "gentle low-intensity movements are used to stimulate the flow of fluids and energy in the body, while keeping it supple and providing a mental calm." Usually starts off her morning doing Raitha.
- She does have the talent to be a healer but she has a very short attention span when it comes to studying. - Ali loves taking mud baths after work. But in a country where "cleanliness, both physically and spiritually, are incredibly important," some look down on her for this. But mud baths are good for the coat and are an excellent way to de-stress. And Ali takes a bath before bed just like any other decent Talori would do--most of the time. - Supports the Solstice Sacrifices even though she may be labeled as a "pegasus sympathizer" because of her many feathered friends. Ali's actually a little of jealous of those who get sacrificed, because they automatically become hippocampi in their next life. - Not too many horses know about her parents' past as drug dealers. It's not something Ali's comfortable with sharing. Only family and a few close friends know this fact (and a possible few others when Ali has one of her "slips of the tongue") - Aunt Phoebe's shop is called "Phoebe's Floral Delights." Her garden open to the public is called The Hedge. - Flower crowns and flower hair arrangements are her speciality - Ali is a carrier of the unicorn trait even though she herself isn't one. Many unicorns on her mother's side of the family. - There's a very big possibility that Ali has younger siblings that she doesn't know about that were born after her parents moved to the Isles. - Is a remake of Alexandra (Ecathi) Goal/ Drive:
To start her own garden. Or work as a gardener at the palace or one of the big-wig houses. Or create flower arrangements for the palace. Gain more recognition, basically. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, oh well. And marry a caring, dependable stallion who she can take mud baths with.

Big Mama - Aquorian (Asian) Elephant
Ali's parents had an older female elephant that had been passed around by different family members that they used to help complete the heavy work around their farm. If the elephant had an actual name, Ali couldn't remember it now. She was only a young foal back then. She simply called her Big Mama. Big Mama nannied the newborn Ali when her parents would make their drug sale trips at night. The elephant never had any offspring of her own and became very attached to Ali. When Ali's parents move to the Isles, the Big Mama was too large to take with them on the ship. So the elephant was left with friends while Ali was sent north to the capital and her aunt. Their parting was filled with many tears and sorrowful trumpeting.
Unfortunately, Big Mama was not treated so well in her new home and was passed from one farm after another. Each one worse than the next. Eventually the old girl had enough and escaped one day. She wandered the Wilds for a while and eventually made it back to the farm where all her happy memories of the young filly were. But now a different family lived there, leaving her confused. Luckily, the new owners knew of Ali's family and contacted her grandparents. Grandpa and Grandma took in Big Mama and they became quite the charming, elderly trio at their little country house. And Big Mama once again knew happiness.
After the Flight was defeated and peace brought back to the capital, Ali and Aunt Phoebe made the long trip down to Misthollow to check on the family. Communication had been very difficult during the rebellion and they hadn't heard from Ali's grandparents/ Aunt Phoebe's parents in a while. The reunion was joyous for Ali and Big Mama. That whole day they didn't leave each other's side, Big Mama's truck constantly playing with Ali's hair.
Big Mama happily helps out with the transportation of large floral deliveries for parties, and weddings. Ali likes to paint floral designs on the elephant's head and trunk when they go out for deliveries.
