I don't know anything about Homestuck. *flails* But leaving your doodle sketchy gives a lot of kinetic energy to the drawing, and definitely adds to the raging expression.

That's subjective... I've read plenty of comics and watched plenty of TV shows/anime from the middle and it didn't affect my enjoyment (a movie or book would be a different thing for me.) Put it this way... if I read Homestuck from the beginning only and not skipped around to see how the story developed, I would have become bored eventually and not given a second thought to it. :\

It's not just some comic or TV show, It is like a book...with pictures to look at. (I know it is classified as a 'web comic' but it is much more than that.)
Trust me on this, coming from someone who has given up on it then read it again(loving it in the end) it is worth taking a look from the start. The whole reason people say that it gets better is the build up, maybe over hyped maybe not but you need to know what is going on before jumping yourself right into the story. Skipping around won't help you understand a thing.

If I'm confused, there's a Wiki page full of spoilers. >_< We obviously consume our entertainment differently. My time is important, I'm not going to read through years of boring stuff just to get to the characters that interested me in my friend's fanart. It may be rewarding for the patient person to be able to get all the references by reading it in a linear manner, but if I "have" to read it that way, I might as well not even bother (because the beginning was way too slow for me and I didn't enjoy it that much.) I'll just go off and watch episode 22 of a random anime people say is good.

If no one enjoys the beginning, then there must be a lot of stubborn fans. OR MAYBE someone skipped ahead and saw cool-looking characters and then spread the word and people got hooked. I should ask some of my friends if they read the comic in a strictly linear fashion. You've piqued my interest now.
And I'm saying that that doesn't matter to me since I'll learn as I go, and look up spoilers if I don't understand anything. Seriously, long-running stuff should be accessible to new fans, not blocked out to all but the super hardcore (and stubborn.) :\

Ask your friends, I guarantee they will say they read it linear because it is meant to be read that way. There is a story that is begin told, skipping to the climax of it will not get you to appreciate what all of it has to offer. You can't learn as you go or look up spoilers if you are at the middle, it is too late for you to understand a thing without going from the start. I agree, most comics you can do that with but in homestuck you can't and I am telling you that from experience. I was not super hard-core OR stubborn when I started reading I just read it in bulk which worked out for me. I didn't even like it before i started or had any background information on what it was besides 'oh it is a good comic, nikki, read it, it gets good the troll part' I didn't skip to middle near end to get into it.
