This Has been something I've been working on for 6 months. He's based sort of heavily on the painting from a dragon book by Graeme Base's. You can see that picture here:[link]
I made a painting on a friends guitar for her Christmas present and this crocheted piece is based on it.
He was entered in a challenge on craftster but I can't remember which one at this point. I think based on a painting. I was in like 3rd or 4th place.

I used Wal-mart's Mainstays yarn which is discontinued as well as some simply soft for the wings and tounge. The horns are silver embroidery floss and one strand of crochet cotton held together and crocheted with a tiny hook. The embroidery on the wings took at least 3 hours if not 4.

Sorry I noticed you posted on the fairy dragon earlier and not this one but I'd all ready pushed reply. The pattern for the fairy dragon belongs to nutsaboutcrochet13 on etsy. I don't think she has the pattern listed right now but you could convo her and ask her to list it and I'm fairly sure she would.
the only thing I changed was I made the neck longer, and made the wings and "ears" out of felt.

Thanks so much! Crocheting isn't really hard just make your first project something easy and something you want to learn! Then learn all the stitches used to make it. Practice and don't be a afraid to rip things out if they don't look right.
I am self taught and if I can learn so can you! there are videos on you tube, and online as well as tons of tutorials!

Thank you for the advice. I'm still getting used to ripping back in knitting. Hopefully crochet would somehow be less sad(?). Can't wait 'til i get the skills to tackle the dragon.

It's way less sad, just one stitch at a time and much easier to put back on the hook.
I'm scared to rip my knitting out still. Probably becasue every time I make a mistake I'm out somewhere and my tutorial is on my computer at home! lol
As a result the little monkey I'm knitting my baby brother is taking forever and has lots of mistakes. I have 2 rows where I knit instead of purled! lol. And that's jut on the body so far I have one row where I did the same thing on his face. *sigh*

hm. doesn't sound taunting at all. i've had to rip back 90 of a sweater i did. i'm beginning to find knitting mistakes endearing. and anything handmade has an automatic superiority to other stuff. i'm sure it's still cute!
