Description Since I'm going back to work again tomorrow, I decided to at least get one more drawing done. I'll miss my vacation! ;__; But anyway, one last drawing before slavery resumes!

Now that I've managed to drawn the inner silver millennium senshi, I really wanted to introduce the last of the prev-gen mothers I had actually finished designing. Well, except for her name, that is.

So say hello to Lady Destruction, the mother of Saturn, and the previous soldier of destruction. From a young age her mind had been rather 'unstable', and inheriting the destructive powers of Saturn didn't do anything to help her. The last straw was when she got got pregnant, and after 'Hotaru' was born she slowly spiralled into madness. Until finally one day she just disappeared (it is presumed she took her own life, although no one could find the body).

'Hotaru' grew up with her grandmother (who was already more or less raising her anyway), and shortly after she inherited her senshi powers, she started showing signs of instability. It was then decided that whoever possessed the powers of destruction was to be sealed away, to ensure the safety for everyone, and especially the soldier of Saturn.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

Sailor Moon (c) Naoko Takeuchi.
Character (c) me.

I haven't mentioned it yet, but god do I love her asymmetrical hair. She's just exuding power that's borderline crazy. I love this!

Thank you! I love her hair too, it's the first proper asymmetrical hairdo I've ever done! And it definitely suits the character!

She does seem like she can be easily dual! I was doodling her and looking at the picture for reference and noticed a lot of the little details you've put into her! (the different feathers and the Saturn Symbol on her wrist!)

elila In reply to SuzakuTrip [2011-08-10 19:57:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I do love adding details! The symbol on her wrist is actually her main symbol (all of my prev gen senshi have their symbol somewhere on their body other than their forehead, except for Serenity of course). One of the good things about working with art on the computer is the fact that I can just keep adding and adding on the picture until I get bored!

Things I especially like:
-The little Saturn tattoo on her hand
- Her mismatched hair-wings
- The gradual gradient of her dress
- The semi-transparency of her scythe
- The construction of said scythe at the bottom

Poor Hotaru can't catch a break, can she? Her folks are always nuts. At least Haruka and Michiru are slightly better (though they tried to kill Hotaru before they became her parents). I like her design, and the fact that her glaive is transparent.

Now now, I'm not evil towards all of my characters! Might I remind you that most of the prev-gen senshi are perfectly happy? Sure, Serenity lost her mother when she was 16, and Freya is impossibly in love with her queen, but other than that they're mostly okay!

I left behind the fairytale-reality stories when I was 16! Sometimes life sucks, and sometimes it doesn't, that's just how it goes! Of course, when you're a senshi, life tends to suck more (and more dangerously) when it does, I imagine. On the other hand, sometimes you get to rule the world as well, so it has it's up and downs!

B-but, Hotaru-chan's not unstable! Or is this another one of those past life =/= present life cases I wish more people would apply to Usagi vs Princess Serenity? XD

She's soooo pretty.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

elila In reply to galacticpink [2011-08-08 07:02:58 +0000 UTC]

But there's nothing in canon that points to Usagi and princess Serenity was different, besides from the obvious upbrining/enviroment causes (raeges at PGSM! )! Although I personally always thought that Hotaru, brought up in the wrong enviroment, was a little bit on the unstable side. That aside, I never actually said that she was unstable, just that she 'she started showing signs of instability'. There's a great possibility that this was an unnecessary caution that would've been fixed had, you know, everything not been destroyed!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

galacticpink In reply to elila [2011-08-08 07:23:51 +0000 UTC]

Those obvious differences in raising are pretty damn big. Take the exact same person genetically and have them raised by different parents and you'll get two different people (can you tell I think Nurture has a much stronger impact than Nature yet? )

PGSM, imo, did it exactly the same! It's just that the product of raising made Serenity SO different that when her past life gained sentience it was a major problem for her current life. XD

Ooh yeah, caution. Always a good thing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

elila In reply to galacticpink [2011-08-08 07:54:54 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but there are no differences so major between Usagi and Serenity's life that should've caused the change that happened in PGSM. I would've counted it as 'insane spirit possession' if not for the fact that Usagi was already occupying said spirit. I just don't think it makes sense in the context of what we already know. It's not like we don't know how Princess Serenity was anyway, and to go from a young woman who takes her own life in grief, to a raving lunatic hell-bent on destroying the universe as we know it? Yeah, I don't really buy it. Which is why PGSM and I keep a healthy distance, and I just let it live in it's own little world! No harm, no foul!

I think both nature and nurture is important, and neither should be ignored. Too man studies been done to disregard either of the factors. And I think in Hotaru's case, her 'second' upbringing on earth definitely had a lot to say for her mental well-being!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

galacticpink In reply to elila [2011-08-08 12:17:37 +0000 UTC]

Well, PGSM is such a different kettle of fish its not really fair to it or the anime and manga to be comparing it too much. When you combine the grief with the EXTEREMLY different portrayal of the Silver Crystal (PGSM took the whole "sides of the same coin" thing with Serenity and Chaos and went to town a little heavily with it) it becomes a little more forgivable at least? I do see where you're coming from though. XD And uh, I kind of ship a couple where one half is reincarnated from the other (THEY ARE NOT THE SAME PERSON IT IS VERY COMPLICATED XD) so maybe I'm able to view souls a tiny bit differently... XD

Which upbringing? Hotaru is one of those cases where the anime and manga are SO different that it's hard to reconcile them. I mean goodness even ignoring the cyborg vs human issue, her father was two completely different people (and only died/stayed dead in one universe! XD) Poor girl, can't catch a break on the parent front

elila In reply to galacticpink [2011-08-08 13:24:57 +0000 UTC]

Are we talking 'Yu-Gi-Oh' here, or what?

PGSM can keep it's own canon, it's cool enough, it's just not for me! I adhere to the manga (well, as long as it doesn't get in the way of my fun), and I don't enjoy the re-telling that PGSM does, except for some interesting twists and turns, so I just stopped watching it. Save my sanity, whatever was left of it anyway.

Oh, and it's of course Hotaru's manga story, I'm still behind on the anime. I have a vague idea about most of the anime story as well, but never really finished watching it. I, uh, had some issues with characterizations there too. I suck.

galacticpink In reply to elila [2011-08-08 13:50:49 +0000 UTC]

NOW WHY WOULD YOU THINK THAT? (It's actually... never really quite stated just what Atem's relation to Yuugi is, but it's pretty heavily implied. I've seen people go the descendant route (more possible than some would like to admit, I keep telling people that a 15-17 year old Ancient Egyptian king would NOT be a virgin. XD), and even some refuse any relationship at all between them! (Because every other clone being a reincarnation IN CANON means that Yuugi and Atem can't possibly be? XD) - It even works if you look at the Ancient Egyptian concept of soul.

Oh dear, you got me geeking.

As for Sailor Moon... Pfft, issues with characterizations in the anime = quite normal. XD I'm totally not trying to convert you to PGSM (It... it's.... unique?) either, if I came across as such. I still prefer it to the anime, but hey. XD Man, uh, you might.. uh... your sanity may not let you watch SuperS. Uh... especially since you're a Chibi Moon fan... uh... XD

Still, one of these days, I'm going to watch the whole anime! And occasionally try to somehow get through yugioh as well, I have read some of the manga and I think watched some of the anime. Or something, I get a bit confused every now and then!

It doesn't have a complete fansub cause the fandom are stupidheads (that makes me a stupid head too ) - It's licensed in AMerica so people are less willing to touch it, y'know? How are your feelings on Hong Kong subs? Can you undesrtand enough Japanese to make sense of them?

Hong Kong subs ARE in... erm... sort of English.

They're really bad subs, but if you're used to watching subs they can be just the push you need towards understanding. XD

Engrish, huh? Not quite sure I'm up for that! I think I watch too little anime for that to work properly!

galacticpink In reply to elila [2011-08-08 23:01:06 +0000 UTC]

So. Very. Much. The one that amuses me most (and it's not unclear given context, like a lot of the translations are. I just mean in sheer lulz value) is "Buddhist Tinny Stick" (the proper translation would have been Millenium Rod or Millenium Scepter. XD)

Although they do use the dub names and in one episode the sister and brother got their dub names swapped so Jounouchi was subbed as Serenity and Serenity was subbed as Wheeler... (his dub surname given Jounouchi is technically his family name. XD)

elila In reply to galacticpink [2011-08-09 06:17:38 +0000 UTC]

Sounds hilarious!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

galacticpink In reply to elila [2011-08-09 16:50:54 +0000 UTC]

*Shizuka was dubbed as Wheeler

(Also, it's one case of a dub name changes I can approve of. I can't speak for the KANJI Shizuka uses, but implication of pronuncation/name meaning? Nice job. XD)

Ryuuji Otogi to Duke Devlin and Anzu Mazaki to TÊa Gardner still has me scratching my head though. XD
