Apple created on a Nintendo 3 DS using the Art Academy Free Paint. I practiced mixing different tints, tones and shades of red for this picture.Related content

For a Nintendo 3DS painting, that's pretty intense haha.
Nice related colors overall. The sandy brown color works well to compliment the ruby red apple. There needs to be more contrast in the apple, however. Check out some shading tutorials around dA-- the shading here is quite monotonous and lacking on the apple, actually... at least, compared to a painting.
If you were attempting to copy your subject matter (if you had an apple in front of you), there's still more contrast that could be used. Also, the texture could be implied a lot more. Apple's a bit too smooth, dont'cha think? I do like the texture of the entire work, overall. Shadow on apple also needs more worked. It's also kinda cheated 'cause you attempted to fit in on the canvas. In RL, the shadow wouldn't be that small, though you probably know that, judging from your pretty well-off artistic skills.

I was using a picture of a painting of an apple and it showed! I need to use actual objects to improve my skill. I have learned that drawing from other drawings or paintings is causing me to duplicate my errors.
I was trying to use art books instead of the art lessons that come with Art Academy Nintendo. Now I have shifted to using actual paper and art supplies.

nice study. I can't tell where the light source is though. I see main like is top front, but cast shadow says mid left. and highlight on left side says back left. However you can fudge it by just putting the cast shadow more centered with the apple. Keep on studying AND working hard
