FFFFFFFFFFFIIIIINAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYHere you guys, let me tell you a story.
There once was a so-called "artist" named Muffyfluffles. She had a very aggravating knack to only be able to draw things that were annoyingly and disgustingly kawaii. One day, Muff felt like drawing Grovyle, and felt like trying really hard to make it look badass.
Muff thought she succeeded. She thought that this picture looked mostly badass and not all that cute, like everything else in her gallery.
Muffyfluffles wanted to share this picture with all of you.

WOOOOOOO EXTREMELY LATE CRITIQUE. Okay Muff, first of all, the first thing that caught my attention was the fact that you did an absolutely amazing job with the perspective on his face. You did a great job capturing his overall face features and that intimidating look of his character. Also, the leaf on his head looks great. But I noticed a few things you could improve a little on. (and I know this is an old piece, but it can't hurt to give you some advice you maybe already figured out yourself, right? B'D) First off, the leaf on his head. The perspective is alright, but it's hard to tell whether it's really big or whether it's supposed to be flying behind him like a scarf. The other thing; that leaf that's coming off of his right arm. It would appear that seeing it like that would suggest that his other arm is just stiff against his body, and it looks a tad awkward. The last and most important thing to me; THE LEGS. At first glance, they look fine; but if you take a moment to look at them, you realize it's hard to tell what he's doing. He could be running, and I think that's what you intended to do with them, but it look kind of awkward, you know? Also, his left foot looks like it could be facing frontwards OR backwards. To be fair, I know this type of perspective is quite difficult to draw, but I think you did a great job with it. Just some tips for next time. Yup.

Well, the reason I drew the head-leaf like that was... because the Pokemon company people do that. :U
They always have it up in that big curve, so that's what I was aiming for. X'D
And as for the next two bits... the reason he's posed this way is because he's jumping. I dunno, I've always been under the impression that people make really weird poses when they jump, but I guess not everyone does. XD

He's a little awkwardly posed, though, especially in the legs/feet. And the shading of his body indicates that the time gear is the light source, yet most of the leafy appendages are showing another light source to be from something else...almost from a camera flash. XD
I like your determination to draw other styles (as apart from 'cute'). With more practice, you might see yourself as more than an "artist".
