For \'s December 2010 Monthly Theme \"Christmas Masquerade\"

The full title should be \"Messenger of Hopes and Dreams\"
For me, Christmas represents many things; Family, friends, food(The three \'F\'s!), excitement, decorations, traditions,etc., etc., and many more things, but I finally boiled it down to the two things that sum it up for me, Hopes and Dreams. So to represent these ideas, I choose two symbols long associated with both the ideas and Christmas itself; Birds and Stars. And how, you might ask, are they incorporated in the design of the dress?
Well, let me explain.

The dress is made of a smooth white duchess satin, the skirt shaped in overlapping panels representative of the points of a star and the feathers and wings of a bird. In addition to being a symbol of hope, birds are also seen as messengers, often carrying gifts, so here the panels are also reminiscent of layers of paper wrapping a gift, an effect further enhanced by the silvery ribbon that wraps the bodice and forms the sleeves. Under these panels, a dense, silver lace falls in two tiers of a soft, swirling pattern, lightly sprinkled with beads, like a sparkling and shimmering galaxy of stars.

Two other concepts interwoven with these symbols of hopes and dreams are that of messages(or messengers) and wishes. I will freely admit, I had \" when You Wish Upon A Star\" and \" A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes\" going round and around in my head as I drew this ( Thank you, Disney, for those pernicious ear-worms!), along with thoughts of messages in the stars, a star that led the way to a manger, Miracles and dreams coming true, doves as symbols of love and peace and the Holy Spirit, and a thousand paper cranes that carry a wish to heaven( the skirt kind of looks like folds of origami!). With all that going though my head I\'m surprised I actually managed to come up with a cohesive design at all!

As for what I wish for this holiday season, I\'d love some more space ( the #1 problem with being crafty: Your supplies take over everything!), but since that\'s not very likely, a decent camera and tripod would be nice.
