First off, this is really cute! ^^ I love the soft colors especially the blues. The white snowflakes and the blue ones are very symmetrical and add a nice touch.
Her hair is rather nice and is detailed wonderfully and I love the patterns on her outfit. The background is cool and simple too. I lover her little fan ^^ It's shaded nicely and has a real cute design!
However, there's a few problems here and there with the anatomy. Her right hand seems a bit too fat and 'crooked'. Her left arm and the way she is holding the fan is a bit wonky as well.  And her feet are so white....And since her hands aren't that white it looks more unnatural and strange.
Aside from that, I think the dress color could be brightened up maybe just a bit to achieve more of a pastel look ^^ And as a small nitpick, I think the snowflake patterns on her dress might be adjusted a bit more to match the other snowflakes around her. And as a last thing, she looks a bit 'stiff'.
Overall, this is a very cute picture ^^ I hope my critique was useful and keep up the good work. Have a good day/night!

Thank you so much for the constructive comment! ^^
Yeah posing is something I do need to work on, haha. The stiffness is a problem, yeah.
Also the feet are so white because she has white toe socks on xD

As for brightening up the colors, I would but the design is not mine lol This is someone else's OC. I already lightened/pasteled up the colors a bit compared to the original colors I was shown. I did still want it to look like the original design though, so I didn't lighten them up too drastically.

Thank you for the critique! I really appreciate it! <3

Hello!  I'm commenting on this as part of .  I want to start of by saying that I absolutely LOVE this piece.  You did a great job and should be very proud of the results!

On to the more technical critique.   I hope it helps you improve you work going forward!

First off, the design of the character and the overall composition is gorgeous.  The subtle contrast between the red and white palette of the foxgirl and the blue background works very well.  Backgrounds can often make or break a piece, and run the risk of overpowering a detailed character or being so bland that it vanishes from thought.  Here, it strikes that happy medium.  I especially love the repeating use of the snowflakes on her clothing and in the background.  It really ties the work together.

One area that could use some improvement is her posing and anatomy.  Overall, I think you did a good job with her, and there is a lot of nice little details.  The subtle positioning of her feet gives a nice hint of motion that is reflected in the folds of her clothing and, to a lesser extent, her hair.  The main issue is that her top half, especially the arms, seem a bit stiff comparatively.  While her feet give the impression of weight and movement, her hands, especially the one holding the fan, seem rigid and posed.  Its a tough skill to master (I myself am far worse at it), but slightly changing the positioning of her hands might give that sense of movement.  Make her pose a bit looser.  Likewise, her hair is wonderfully detailed, but seems to be flowing a bit unnaturally.  Give it a bit more of a flow and bounce by using it to indicate her subtle movement.  Hair reacts with gravity and movement.  Here's a general example of what I am describing s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/5… Use the hair to bring the piece together.  In this picture, there are 3 "masses" of her hair, the two in front and one behind her body.  The two in front are moving in different directions, while the back is flowing out, then inwards.  None of these are terrible, but there isn't a lot of consistency between them

I love her expression a lot.  She seems very adorable and kind, and it really makes the picture work out well.  The detailing on her clothing and accessories is gorgeous.  Amazing job all around and looking forward to seeing more from you in the future!

Hello and thank you so much for the constructive comment! <3

Thanks for the compliments, and also that's really useful advice on backgrounds that you gave me. Even if my background was fine, I'm glad you pointed out what you did, as in the future I can keep what you said in mind and improve even further.
Also, I agree that her pose might not be the best and be a bit "default." I need to work on less stiff body parts and more fluid movement, haha. Plus thank you so much for that link to the hair movement relative to gravity. It will come in handy in the future!
I'll definitely keep wind and movement in mind more when I draw hair from now on and I'll practice.

Thanks again for the criticism, it was very helpful! I really appreciate it!

This is for ProjectComment!
I really love what you did with this! It's beautiful, shiny, silvery, serene, happy, and overall, just amazing!
I don't really know what say you could improve it with, but I have to try anyway.
The proportions are great! They don't look forced like some artists make female~and even male~figures look forced. What I mean is, it looks natural. But like all other things, I don;t mean just in this drawing, it could be improved. The right side (mine and your right side. Not hers.) should probably be wider. I have a rule that I made for myself to remember female proportions. It's "the hips should be as wide, or a little bit wider than the top of the torso." It's just a tip.
Also, her arms should be a little bit longer. Hands normally are at around the middle of the thigh. Her hands start just a little bit past her hips.
Also, I think her hair should "poof" out more. I like how it poofs out at the bottom, but it looks slightly unnatural that her hair is suddenly taking up a lot more of the picture than the middle of her hair. It just doesn't look very gradual if that's the right word. The middle of her hair should be a little wider.
I hope this comment was constructive in helping you create future art! All of this was just to help you.

Thanks for the compliments, and ahh yeah I try my best with anatomy but I know I still need to improve on it. Also, many thanks for that tip about the arm length! I for some reason always struggled with figuring out how long to make people's arms. xD I'm glad you let me know they are too short.
As for her hair, yeah I understand what you are saying. I'll keep that in mind in the future when drawing long hair like this.
I extremely appreciate your feedback! Thank you so much!

I'm glad I helped you! I think everyone has trouble with anatomy once in a while. I just barely learned how to draw a correct male figure. And I still have trouble with female figures. A lot of the time, the first seven more or less times I try drawing a girl's figure it looks unnatural. Lol. I hope I can improve that.
I'm glad I gave the comment because giving people advice and tips actually helps me remeber them and it improved my art too.

Another thing I should tell you is
Don't be afraid to fix your mistakes. A lot of the time artists are afraid to change their mistakes and they just carry on with it and their drawing, painting, etc... never becomes as great as it could have been. Everyone makes mistakes. But some people never fix them. I'm not saying you should erase this piece and start over. I'm saying in future pieces do a full proportion check before you start applying color.
I usually do this, but even then I don't always see the mistakes. But it really does help.
I think everybody should do this.

I'm sorry if I'm boring you with my 10,000,000 letter comment, but I just thought I should tell you for the future.

Oh goodness don't even get me started on male anatomy LOL I only recently got a little better at them, but I definitely am not as good with males as I am with females. xD
And yeah, I try my hardest to ensure anatomy and everything looks alright even before I start the linearting phase xDD But yeah... can't catch all the things ;v; That's why another pair of eyes is always appreciated.

And ohh no need to apologize! I enjoy socializing and talking about art, haha! Plus your comments have some nice tips!

Anime-style male anatomy is so confusing. Even just regular male anatomy is confusing! I just barely taught myslef the basics.

Thank you! I enjoy helping people!
I think there should be a lot more great art in the world, it makes it a better place. And there's not other way for that to happen than to help people become great artists. You are already an amazing artist! But, like everyone else, you can still improve.
I can too.

What digital software do you use? I want to get Manga Studio soon. Then I plan on creating a how-to-draw book.

Elizasketchflux [2017-03-24 16:42:42 +0000 UTC]

For an OC on Deviantart, Fuyu Yuki's design is surprisingly well done!

For one thing, her anatomy is well drawn. One common issue I see when it comes to these anime OCs is that their anatomy looks off putting (especially around the face and hair), but in Fuyu Yuki's cases, her anatomy is consistent and her face and hair is nicely detailed.

Another I like about Yuki is that the colouring choice and the shading on her hair, eyes and clothing are very nice and makes her design pleasing to look at, without using over-saturated colours like I see in most anime OCs. Not to mention how it ties in with the background design very well.

I see potential in your artwork because you capture the anime art style very well. The only thing I recommend is try and draw characters in a more dynamic pose to give your characters more of a personality instead of standing around doing very little. It may take time, but if you practise enough, it can look great!

ellebits In reply to Elizasketchflux [2017-03-25 01:00:14 +0000 UTC]

Yeah her design is pretty. ^^ (She's not my OC btw, haha)

Yeah I spend a lot of time trying to make sure anatomy looks as correct as possible while I'm sketching it. xD
Thank you for the compliments! I've changed the way I shade multiple times, and think I have finally landed on a style I can stick with. But I'm still always trying to improve. ^^
And yeah, I need to work on my poses and be more creative, haha. I appreciate the feedback!

I like it because it is cute! I always loved anime style drawing but I think you should consider trying some realistic styled drawing to improve your shading and etc. Because I think you have some hidden potential lying there...and consider a more dynamic pose cuz you know, that pose just seems too normal and it looks empty for me because the character is just standing there and do nothing. It is cute. It is very cute, indeed! But I think it will be cuter if you make it doing something cute!
