"You dreamed me up and left me here."
For Charles. (For reasons which have gone beyond the confines of words and which he knows all too well.) And for Tom Waits, whose melancholy rasp serenaded me for hours and days on end as I worked on this piece.
Disclaimer: this is my first ever digital painting. I'm still working with a mouse rather than a tablet so please forgive the rather simplistic composition. (And possibly messy execution. That's my friend Charles with me, if that's what you're asking.
It wasn't supposed to be me, nor was it supposed to be Charles, until suddenly it was. I suppose it was the combined influence of Tom Waits, who favors fedoras and dons them frequently, as well as Charles's own love and appreciation for them.
That piece in particular underwent many changes (as you can imagine, what with being a digital painting and all - changes to one's heart's content).

Amazing! You did this with a mouse? I don't think I'd be able to make this with my pen! It looks gorgeous! It's actually the simplicity that makes this lovely.

I've been cursed to a tablet-free existence ever since I first delved into the world of digital art, so I guess I'm used to a mouse at this point. I think it's practice rather than talent in my case.
