Description (2011), 9"x 3", Size 15 seed beads (matte metallic gray-brown, silver-lined pale beige, silver-lined light turquoise, silver-lined dark turquoise) chrysocolla beads, polyester thread

The design of this wing-bracelet reminds me of Maori bone-carvings, hence the title. I wanted something subtle, yet summery, and so I framed two tones of shimmering turquoise seed beads with neutral beige and brown, which really makes the strong colors of the accent beads pop. The bracelet is fairly broad, but still very comfortable to wear.

I did make a second one in cream crystal, matte dark red and silver-lined bright red for my sister-in-law, which looks spectacular against her dark skin, but I forgot to take a photo of it, before I sent it to her... It's one of those designs that bears repeating in different color combinations...

First, a thank you for uploading your newest bracelet, thus reminding me that I'd kept this one in my watch que to comment on!

I personally don't feel that turquoise and purple tones don't get mixed together enough, so thank you for that. The two opposites really make the each other pop, and the swirling design keeps the viewer's eye moving quite happily. I'm intensely curious as to the appearance of the darker version you made for your sister in law, but I also think that this design would lend itself well to your beloved fire hues, maybe with amber beads and various shades of red and black.

Thanks so much! I remember having a really intense love affair with turquoise and purple/ violet when I was in my teens, and somewhere my Mum still has a stash of watercolors that would attest to that... It was fun revisiting that old favorite of mine. I guess next time I'm at my brother's I just have to snap a pic of my sister-in-law's copy of the design...

Oh, that is cool! I think that adds a nice meaning and dimension to the piece. I have heard some people speak Lithuanian in London many years ago - older folks who were emigrants. It sounded very melodious - like it would be a great language to tell stories in!

oh, thank you very much, well our language sounds quite nice, but it`s difficult even for us to learn all the grammar and accentuation, for foreigners, even more. particularly for those, who in their own language don`t pronounce "r"
