Description (2004), 24" for the chain overall, 5" for the bracelet. Lapis lazuli stick beads, rock crystal beads, sterling silver wire (gauges 24, 22 and 20), Bali silver spacers.

I really like this chain for its graceful drape: while the pattern of the ring-components is classic Byzantine I tapered the segments by starting with small 24 gauge jump-rings shaped round a size 1 knitting needle for a mandrel, I then ramped up to 22 gauge and size 3, and the center rings are 30 gauge round a size 5.

This way you get a wonderfully organic sense of taper to the chain pieces. The overall chain is completely closed and slips over your head. The double-drape around the stand is only for display purposes (or if you happen to have a really small head...)

Thank you! Actually Byzantine isn't too bad. It looks pretty and complicated, but it works up quite all right. Now Snake chain will make you cry... (It did me - in frustration!)

Poor thing... Someday, I'll around to trying to make chains. But first, I need to face that Peyote again...

Well, some things must be done despite reluctance, and some you'd just have to be stupid to keep doing.

I didn't notice that the different sized rings made the width of the necklace vary so much. That is really a neat...and simple effect!

The tapering is a really nice touch. I've considered doing that for some of our chains, but I've been to lazy to make my own jumprings lately Looks great!

Thank you! I was really happy when I came up with the idea, the segments look just so much more organic.

magpiesmiscellany [2006-11-28 04:59:34 +0000 UTC]

oooh I want! You're right abut the organic feel. Seems like something that would look smashing with amber or some of your glass beads.

Next time I want to drive myself nuts (err... intentionally rather than the more normal unintentional moments...) I think I'm going t0 have to go fiddle with byzantine. Damn you, I thought I'd finally gotten it out of my system.

LOL! I've got to put a couple of the other chains out there with different stones... And yeah, Byzantine is still my absolute favorite...

Ah, Ich liebe Lapis-Lazuli.

It usually takes me 10-20 pics for me to get one good one of my stuff, too much shiny, angles and dimension at the same time. It would have suprised me if they "didn't" find you.

so gorgeous.
i love the tapered-ness of the byzantine.
that was some good thinking.
and i love the wat the little spherical beads work with the lapis.

isn't 5" a bit short for a bracelet? i thought 7 was standard. or am i full of it?

anyway, i still love the set!
great job!

Thanks for the nice comments about the chain. I like the way it seems to "puff out" this way.

I don't know if I asked this before, but: do you sell your jewelry/artcraft works, or do you do it for pleasure?

They are truly wonderfull. I'm not at all skilled with those materials you use, even if I love all that involves beads and jewelry.

Sorry for bothering.
I'll tell Lucius to drop by and guive you a massage

LOL! That's an offer I can hardly refuse!

As for your question, I'm kind of neither fish nor fowl on that issue. I throw a couple of things up on my etsy site once in a while, I will also do commission work if someone specifically asks me for something and is willing to pay the stupid price for the time that goes into a lot of this stuff, but I'm definitely not doing it for a living - I believe one couldn't, not for a decent living anyway. So it's for pleasure, and I have to like a commish to take it.
