Description (2007) pencil on paper, 15"x15"

Despite the rather flippant title this was actually a pretty ambitious project. First off the size which really had me intimidated for a bit, then some technical experiments, such as trying to make the patronuses glowing with innner light and at the same time seem translucent with the figures of the two wizards and the decor of the room showing through them.

The topic of the picture was brought on by some conversations here on DA regarding Snape's patronus as revealed in DH, and then folks talked about how Lucius' patronus could be a reflection of his extravagant pets, his white peacocks. Well, the idea resonanted with me. After all peacocks stand for pride, but also are sacred to Juno, the goddess of hearth and family. And by now we know the Malfoys put family above all...

So here I give your our two favorite Death Eaters with their not very macho or intimidating patronuses. I bet not only Snape kept his under wraps when it came to his associates. Lucius may have felt discreet about his, too.

The thing is....you have them so precise and clear. Snape or Professor Snape looks great. You have his glower down well.

Every man wants to be a macho macho man
to have the kind of body, always in demand
Jogging in the mornings, go man go
works out in the health spa, muscles glow
You can best believe that, he's a macho man
ready to get down with, anyone he can

Hey! Hey! Hey, hey, hey!
Macho, macho man (macho man)
I've got to be, a macho man
Macho, macho man
I've got to be a macho! Ow....

Macho, macho man
I've got to be, a macho man
Macho, macho man (yeah, yeah)
I've got to be a macho!

You can tell a macho, he has a funky walk
his western shirts and leather, always look so boss
Funky with his body, he's a king
call him Mister Eagle, dig his chains
You can best believe that, he's a macho man
likes to be the leader, he never dresses grand

Hey! Hey! Hey, hey, hey!
Macho, macho man
I've got to be, a macho man
Macho, macho man
I've got to be a macho! (all right)

Macho, macho man (yeah, yeah)
I've got to be, a macho man
Macho, macho man
I've got to be a macho! All Right!

Every man ought to be a macho macho man,
To live a life of freedom, machos make a stand,
Have their own life style and ideals,
Possess the strength and confidence, life's a steal,
You can best believe that he's a macho man
He's a special person in anybody's land.

Hey! Hey! Hey, hey, hey!
Macho, macho man (macho man)
I've got to be, a macho man
Macho, macho man
I've got to be a macho! (dig the hair on my chest)

Macho, macho man (see my big thick mustache)
I've got to be, a macho man
Macho, macho man
I've got to be a macho! (Dig broad shoulders)

Macho, macho man (dig my muscles!)
I've got to be, a macho man
Macho, macho man
I've got to be a macho!

Macho, macho man
I've got to be, a macho man
Macho, macho man
I've got to be a macho! HEY!

i love this. apparently its canon that snape was the only death eater who could produce a patronus. i always thought that was ridiculous. these people were fully grown, sometimes very powerful wizards and in their own way they would have had happy thoughts and memories. i think that most of the death eaters would have been able to produce a patronus and i agree with you 100% on the peacock for lucius. i never knew the thing about juno.. thats awesome!

Ellygator In reply to izclark [2013-07-07 22:19:47 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, and I agree, while the Dementors eventually came over to Voldemort's side, I am sure they have been along for a long time, and even an evil wizard might have thought a patronus would be a good thing to have as a means of defense as well as a means of communication (such as Kingsley's lynx that warns the wedding guests). So I think they would have wanted to learn how to acquire this power using positive memories just like the rest of the wizarding world...

izclark In reply to Ellygator [2013-07-17 18:47:00 +0000 UTC]

i agree but i meant that ive heard that snape was the only death eater CAPABLE of producing a patronus... as in, the others couldnt even if they tried. im fairly sure that this is canon (as in rowling said so herself) and this disappoints me, as it seems such a narrow and simplistic view. death eaters might be twisted and evil but it doesnt mean that they are incapable of happiness to fuel a patronus.

Ellygator In reply to izclark [2013-07-21 15:40:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's also true. Being evil does not make you incapable of happiness. Good point!

Well, when I give him a Patronus it's usually a fox, for intelligence and cunning.

I usually give Luc a fox, when I make him an Animagus, he's a white fox, and Severus is either a panther or black wolf

ObscuroArcanum [2012-06-01 16:28:55 +0000 UTC]

I can imagine Lucius doing that, if his Patronus was a peacock. A rather embarrassing thing
to have known amongst the other Death Eaters; anyone who does know what form the Patronus
would be sworn to secrecy, on pain of death (and not a fast death, either)
Beautifully drawn. You did an amazing job to give the Patroni shape, but still give them their specter
appearance. I can't imagine drawing such ghostly beings on paper with pencils would be an easy
feat. Glowing things are difficult enough to pull off, believably, digitally!

Thank you! I had such a riot drawing this. A little tongue in cheek of course and as you say, a tad embarrassing for the patronus owners, the bambi as much as the peacock...

I can see people being Oblivated afterwards, if Severus or Lucius are
ever forced to summon their Patronus in front of Death Eater witnesses.
Or any witnesses for that matter.

I still can't get over the feminine patronuses and yes death eaters can produce patronuses they are people too and all (almost all) people have souls heck even voldie has a soul it's just torn but I seriously cracked up laughing when I figured out lucius's patronus I <3 snape nice pic

Ellygator In reply to serpentine61398 [2011-11-08 17:52:00 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I think I would agree with your judgment and also believe that just because you are a DeathEater you can still produce a patronus. They may not want to do so, because the dementors don't threaten them, due to their allegiance to LV, but I am sure they could.

I bet Lucius has plenty of old good memories along with the more recent bad ones (dating Narcissa, Draco as a little boy, etc.)

True they probably don't want to I know mine is a dragon voldie's is a snake narcissa I think would have to also be a peacock like luciu's and they only time one of the eatheaters was intimidated by the dementors was when lucius was in azkaban I wouldn't balme him that place is a creepy has heck
snape has to have good memories too like being with lily
Volide's might be the day he found others like him or when he found out he was the heir of slytheren

you've probably been told this, but death eaters don't have patronuses (snape is an exception). however, if malfoy could somehow produce the patronus charm, a peacock would suit him very nicely

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ellygator In reply to OmbroParanojo [2011-07-25 12:56:24 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Definitely just a joking way to comment on Malfoy vanity.

Though I always wondered whether the DE were simply unable or rather unwilling to produce patronunses. If unable that means that if you've done bad things you somehow lose the ability (but then that would be odd, because Snape is certainly capable, even after killing Dumbledore, which was justified given the circumstances, but still pretty bad), if unwilling, then you could do it, but wouldn't bother, because the dementors were allies and so you had no need of one. However, seeing how a patronus can be a good messenger at need (Shacklebolt's lynx) it would be a useful piece of magic that a crafty Slytherin would not simply want to give up on. Definitely a puzzle for me.

OmbroParanojo In reply to Ellygator [2011-07-25 15:24:50 +0000 UTC]

[link] ok so i looked it up and found that..

"The other use was devised by none other than Albus Dumbledore, who invented a way of using the Patronus to deliver messages. This source of communication is believed to be exclusive to the members of the Order of the Phoenix. Using the Patronus for communication offers great advantages in security, as Patronuses identify the caster and are Dark-proof"

"In the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, a white peacock appears in the gardens of Malfoy Manor. Some fans believed this bird to be Lucius Malfoy's Patronus. However, J.K. Rowling stated that no Death Eater except Severus Snape could conjure a Patronus."

"In Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4, Voldemort, Lucius Malfoy, Walden Macnair, Barty Crouch Jr., and an unnamed Death Eater can all cast the spell, despite the fact that Rowling stated that no Death Eater besides Severus Snape could produce a Patronus."

Ohh, thanks for the research and for getting back to me with this. I did not remember that the patronus-as-messenger was an invention by Dumbledore. I guess the topic has quite some dimension and discussion around it. I had also forgotten Umbridge's cat patronus. That definitely means you can be evil and conjure one. So it must be something else that prevents the DE from doing it - maybe some influence LV has over them...
