Description (2013), 13.5" x 11", pencil on paper.

Well, just felt like drawing another Big Bad Brit Blonde! Actually what set me off was watching James Marsters on Warehouse 13 the other night. Looking fabulous after 50 and showcasing nice shades of Spike, what with the immortality, the snappy come-backs, the booze (though Spike could hold his liquor better!), the staking and the epic romance...

I have to admit, vampires have come and gone in my life, but I guess I am still firmly on board with team Spike when it comes down to it. Fave quote: "I had a plan... a good plan, smart plan, carefully laid out. But, I got bored!"

I agree! I like James in other roles as well, but he really put his mark on Spike, as if the character was written for him...

Thank you! It really did take a lot of time. So much texture when you look closely at the reference, but all in very light tones. Was quite a challenge...

Thank you, glad you like! I came to the whole Joss Wheadon experience backwards, starting with Firefly a few years ago and then backtracking through Doll House and then BTVS and Angel. So I did a Buffy marathon last winter and Spike was such a total and absolute hottie. Naturally when I saw Marsters again on Warehouse something just cracked and out came the pencils...

I had to look this gentleman up on IMDB, as I don't believe I've seen him in anything, but you definitely got the features right! The shading and forced profile on the hand is particularly effective. Given your love of the PRB, I'm surprised that more Morris-esque patterns don't appear in the background of your drawings! This one really echoes the styling of his hair. If I had one criticism, it would be lightening the pattern so that it wasn't so close in color to his hair--they really bend when the eye first hits them. Granted, my eyes have had a long day, so take that as you will!

Thanks so much! I totally missed Buffy when it originally aired - guess the silly title kind of put me off, but Firefly confirmed me as a big Joss Whedon fan, and so I decided to catch up on his previous shows including Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse etc. Spike definitely is one of my favorite characters from both Buffy and Angel.

As for the background - the problem with pencil - unlike digital art it just doesn't come with an edit or undo button. If I had to do it over, I'd go lighter. Right now all I could do is go darker and probably risk some blending of the background with the black shirt...

Hab´s grade ( nach langer DA Abwesenheit ) erst gefunden. Ich bin selber Spike Fan der ersten Stunde und durfte ihn und Band 2003 in Kâln und 2004 in Berlin erleben. Und wie immer, eine exelente Arbeit. Von daher tolle Idee und Danke für die nette Überraschung.

Dankeschoen! Ich habe mich vor ein paar Monaten zu einem Buffy/Angelmarathon hinreissen lassen (hat ca 3-4 Wochen gedauert) und musste meinen Lieblingscharakter einfach zeichnen.

Dass Du Marsters in Concert gesehen hast, finde ich klasse! Bestimmt eine tolle Atmosphaere. Ich mag seine Musik. Manche Schauspieler, die sich als Saenger fuehlen kommen zuweilen etwas peinlich rueber (so wie manche Schauspielerinnen, die ploetzlich zu Modedesignern werden...), aber ihm nimmt man das absolut ab.

I wish I could! DA doesn't allow fan art as prints for copyright reasons, but if you wanted to download the rather large original and get some online photo-service like Sam's to make yourself a copy I won't hold it against you. Part of the reason I uploaded the original res.

You know I was literally just talking about him yesterday, how I loved him as Spike and rooted for him and Buffy and if she didn't want him then I would happily take him. Oh yes, remember that one. Loved Torchwood and wish it had gone on for a couple more seasons. Marsters and Barrowman had some serious chemistry... Thank heavens for the BBC, I don't think a US show would have gone there quite like that.
