Description With its distinctive flared radiators, the EMD SD45 could only be found with high short hoods on two railroads: Norfolk & Western and Southern.  Under the hood, a V20 645E3 prime mover delivered 3600 horsepower, emitting a low-throbbing pulse as it pulled tonnage on flat track or over grades.  Delivered to N&W in 1970 and retired by NS in 1991, Bicentennial unit No. 1776 spent 21 years in the elements before Trains Magazine chose the VMT for its 2012 Preservation Award, allowing its patriotic splendor to be restored at Norfolk Southern's Chattanooga Shops and shine once more.  Happy Independence Day!
