Other: We bought Simba and his friend Pirate from an auction recently but as he's just arrived we haven't been able to do a lot with him yet. He's six years old, very green and prior to arriving at EAE had only been exposed to a halter and a bit of basic grooming so it's going to be a long process to get him fully trained for the riding school.

Once we've got him walking and trotting in hand without any problems we'll move on to some lungeing in the indoor school to teach him the aids for walk, trot and canter. If he takes to it well, we'll perhaps do some longreining too so he can get used to having a contact before he has a rider on his back. Once he's mastered that, we'll work our way up to backing him in the summer and go on from there. We've already tried him out in a lungeing cavesson and surcingle and aside from a little cowkick when we did up the girth, he didn't seem to mind the feel of it at all.
