Vaskal/The Last Alliance are (C) to myself so absolutely no stealing! If you'd like to make your own then feel free, so long as you credit me as the creator of the species and link me to your finished piece!
I've been meaning to do a reference sheet for my Vaskal species for months now and finally got round to starting one last week. I'm still working on a colour sheet showing all the different coat colours they come in.
This won't be the last, rest assured - I have loads of other things about them I'd like to explore through my art so watch this space!
I'm also planning to sculpt myself a couple at some point...Vaskal is a regular plural so you use the same word regardless of how many there are (hence, several Vaskal/a Vaskal.)

Very original and unique and beautifully illustrated, too. Its always nice to see anatomy and skeletal systems taken into account, too

I'm always aware that people instantly think 'horse' when they see them but my newest pic of one should hopefully look less equine and more err...Vaskallian. Ooh, I like that word, I ought to use it more often!

The older versions of Kelpie were definitely more horse, but the more recent one was definitely something 'otherworldly' and their conformation is very distinct, so no, they do look like something of their own, now. And Vaskallian is an epic word
On a side note, if you still want to spell Kelpie differently, you could always go with Khelpiee/Khelpii for something kind of different. I like using those variations on occasion, so there's just a couple of suggestions

Would you believe I based a lot of their anatomy on that of a Tapir? XD They're one of my favourite animals and if they were horse sized I bet you someone would have broken one to ride by now. XD
I quite like it with the 'h' actually - Khelpie, hmmm, I might have to seriously consider that one as it's subtle!
I have a ridiculous amount of fonts now - way more than I'll ever get round to using. XD

It's their heads and necks I like - the naturally 'hogged' mane and the ears and general squishyness.
I have a little 'post it' on my desktp with my favourites on it so I can remember them at a glance. XD

The names of my favourites tend to stick in my head. Other than that, I write what I want, highlight everything, and then spend ages scrolling through the list to check out how it looks in a ton of different fonts. Lots of fun XD

Wow, this is wonderful! It looks just like a page out of "Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You." And I love how you even drew its skull! Oh, I want to draw one now! Are you going to make a sheet that shows all the colors they can be? Are their colors more horse-like or more cat-like? I'm really geeking out, this is fantastic!

Hahaha thanks! XD The skull was tricky - I was trying to combine both herbivore and carnivore anatomy without making it look to cobbled together - I think I ended up looking at a racoon skull of all things for reference!
Yup, colour sheet will be up next! I think a bit catlike in terms of patternations - lots of stripes and spots but mostly dark browns and greys with a few lighter colours here and there and yes, draw one!

I was a big diary keeper when I was a teenager, mine never looked like field journals though. They usually had bad cartoons scrawled in felt pen in them.

Haha! I never really kept a diary until I was about 16 but I stopped a couple of years ago and never really got back into it. I really should at some point - it's great to look back on what was going on at the time - music I liked, things in the news, etc. Oh and the dreams! I used to document all the dreams I had and lol...some of them really are something! XD

Mine consisted of which films I had seen, how the rehearsals for the school play were going, which badge I was working on in the guides and general observations on bizarre things that happened to me. Plus cartoons, usually of the films I had seen.
