Fun fact: in the 1850's Irish immigrant Jim Morrissey made his living on the streets of the New York ghetto as a bare-knuckle boxer and member of the "Dead Rabbits" street gang. Later on he would enter politics, become a Democratic State Senator and eventually make U.S. Congressman. Wonder if this experience is at all comparable to Mako's?
