When you view this I want you to know that this is Yami Marik's birth. I know that it's looking into stuff a bit too deep but has anyone ever thought of his birth? The first time he surfaced was when Malik couldn't take the pain anymore and the suffering of his scars.This is when Mariku surfaced. He was barely alive and the first thing he feels is that. It's quite a sad view on his life actually. That is why I actually wanted to portray this. Yami Marik, blood running down his scarred up back and hugging his knees. I know it's probably not the correct image of his character but there's no way anyone would be comfortable feeling that as a first feeling. So hence; This.
It's meant to look like a faint memory. That's why you have the background of a "tomb" and the blurry edges around his hair. But the pain is something that's still vivid, the blood streaming down his back.
Ehhh. Yeah.
I guess that's it. But I really like the outcome of this and it's what I've what I wanted to portray. If I spam you with Yami Marik I apologize. ;D We used fake blood and marker for the blood and the tattoo. So yes that is "real" and not shooped on. Derp. Yami Marik by : *NormalAddict

Oh my - It was drawn on for me! But do take note that such a big tattoo might not be so great anymore when you get older. It's rather painful to get something this large, really expensive too - and it's not "real".
The creator of Yugioh didn't follow actual hieroglyphs when he drew these. So it wouldn't have meaning.

Yeah, i asked a friend of mine if she could draw it on my back with a marker instead, she refused...
Me: Hey use this marker and draw this on my back! (holds up marker and shows Picture)

The cocept of the picture is a very good point. I have never actually considered the point you brought up in your artist comment but now that you mention it; its a very good point. Wouldn't be pleasant at all and might be one of the reasons he's so insane.

Hmmm he is one of my favourite characters because I think about these things. It's kind of sad that he's born in such a gruesome way. Everyone might feel sorry for Malik, that he's taken over by Marik like that, but who's fault is it really? Marik can't help being who he is, it was forced upon him. A normal person would lose their sanity, which is just exactly what Malik did do, but Marik was created just for this purpose. Not only does he feel anything but hatred and pain, there is no other way to cope with then reacting the way he does.

And if you really think about it, why do people feel sorry for Malik and not Marik when essentially theyre the same person? Even more so than the other Yamis and Hikaris since theyre seperate souls. Marik was a coping mechanism for Malik so really its no more Marik's fault that everything happened than it is Malik's. And you're completely right, Marik has never known anything but pain and hatred so he really doesn't know any better.
Huh - its really quite refreshing to have an insightful conversation with another fan. It doesn't happen often...

Exactly. I mean of course it's understandable since Marik is set on revenge and murder. But who's the brain behind it all really? It's Malik's hatred that created him and set him off. Malik later realizes his 'error' but does that really fix the situation? Of course everything got out of hand but erasing Marik from existance seems a bit cruel, considering it's Malik's fault in the first place.
Haha. No not really, unfortunately that goes for pretty much any series. All you see mostly are people saying how 'cute' the characters are. It irks me mostly when they talk about complicated murderous characters like for instance Marik.

Mmm, Malik definately deserves a large chunk of the blame. Actually, as much as I love Malik he deserves all of the blame since - like you said - Marik was created through his hatred. You really can't help but have sympathy for both of them.
But I've noticed this problem with a lot of shows, movies, ect. reguardless of whatever motives, background or life the villian has had to lead them to whatever theyve done wrong, even if it seems totally reasonable or understandable, the heroes totally ignore it and were still expected to see them as a monster. Similar to the debates I used to have with a friend of mine over Hannibal Lecter and his back story.
Oh I know. Though I do often call characters like Yami Bakura cute in fan arts and stuff it doesnt take away from his actual character. I also don't like it when fans defend characters who have done something entirely wrong just because theyre cute or it's their favourite character. I love RHPS and Riff Raff is my fave character. It does not excuse the fact that even though Frank deserved to be shot he kinda snapped when he shot Columbia and Rocky. I like him all the same but Im not going to defend that.

Of course you can't help but feel sympathy for the both of them. Malik was ten years old when his father started carving up his poor back. No wonder you snap and escape to a world where you don't need to feel the pain. Even as a sixteen-year-old who'd done such a thing I'd feel sympathy. Truth is however that there were consequences in the form of Yami Marik. It's probably because he never really acts as if it hurts him, I doubt it hurts him even, no one will feel sympathy for him. And of course it's looking into things too deep, his character is never really explained, but if we go as far as looking into Malik's psychology (snapping and escaping to not feel the pain, which is portrayed in the anime), we should definitely go as far with Yami Marik too. After all; They are two sides of the same coin.
Hahaha well I can't help but admit that I do find Bakura's appearance to be cute at times. He has a rather small face, skinny figure and huge poofy hair. It's kind of hard to ignore. But once you look into things, especially who he was in a previous life, of course he's not cute. He's been through as much, more I dare say, trauma as Malik has been.
Well the scariest I've encountered is a girl who also favs my Yami Marik cosplays and tends to go all out on her profile that she loves him, that he's hers and her husband. He's polite, funny, cute, charming -- All traits that I will never be able to find in Yami Marik. It's a bit disturbing to be honest.
A healthy look on it, like yours, I find much more pleasant.

In all seriousness theres a girl that bad? Now I've dealt with people who are in love with characters before but not wiht some one whose the polar opposite like Marik. Polite and charming? You've got to be kidding me. Then theres the whole fictional animated character issue... Ever dealt with people in a role play who change their characters to be like that? Totally messes with your characterisation and timing.

Couldn't you make some kind of stencil thing? Then all you'd have to do is spray paint it on each time and it'll only take a few mins XD

Then you'd have to cut out those annoying (tiny) symbols on cardboard or another material that is heavy enough xD With paper you'd drench it in ink if you tried to spraypaint it. And cutting it oout on harder material is a pain in itself. xD But yes the stencil thing would be great if it didn't take more effort as the drawing xDD

Thank you so much. I felt the same when I viewed it but since Yami Marik's "birth" was never shown, everyone always feels sorry for Marik. Understandable but not completely accurate (even if his Yami is psychotic).
