While Casper doesn't remember much from the journey from the Talori territory into Aodh, the one thing she does remember is how terrified she had been and the pain of when she'd gotten her scars. This had shaken her in a ways that still clings to her today. Casper will jump at loud noises, and may even lash out at anyone who approaches her from her blind side. She fears the outside world, and though extremely curious about what lies beyond the city she is far too scared to venture out on her own and without a lot on convincing.

Casper is incredibly generous and kind, always willing to help others. Her philosophy is 'treat others the way you wish to be treated' and she never wavers from it, even when she is treated poorly herself. She is not, however, easily swayed into doing wrongs or harming others.

History

Before Birth - Birth:
Rance was born to two unicorns living in an outer village within the Talori territory. His mother, a rather proud and strict brewer, kept her son on a tight leash for most of his younger years. He would often help her with her craft, though he didn't have the patience nor intelligence to do more than hand her what she asked for. His father, an even stricter agriculturist, soon realized his son wasn't cut out for the kind of work his wife did and decided to get the young colt used to hard work early. Everyday from the instant Rance could walk on his own his father, Travis, would take him out to work with him. Travis owned his own field that he had been taking care of on his own, as well as going out and collecting things his wife, Opal, needed for her brews; and now Rance shared in the work.
The young colt spent a long time only knowing his parents and their friends --who were all adults of course-- which lead him to be very withdrawn and shy as he was never expected to speak unless spoken to. He was fifteen years old when he met Bianca. The young pegasus mare had been out for a stroll when she'd caught Rance's eye as he was pulling a cart along the same path; his father not present, now trusting the teen to be able to do work on his own as he was officially an 'adult' in the eyes of the herd.
At first Rance payed the slightly older mare no mind, but that soon became impossible as she fell in step beside him --obviously intent of having a conversation. By the time Rance got back home he was laughing and joking with Bianca, and the two agreed to hang out more often. And with that Rance had made his first friend.
  As the perfect examples of what the Talori consider to be 'normal' Rance's parents weren't entirely thrilled to find him hanging around with a pegasus mare, but after meeting the charming and charismatic youngster they decided it wasn't the worst thing in the world --as long as she wouldn't distract their son from his work. Being friends with Bianca brought Rance out of his shell and soon enough her friends became his as well and he had never felt so loved and welcome among his peers before.
It wasn't long until, despite not being very 'traditional', Bianca asked if Rance would like to be romantically involved with her, and the colt was happy to say yes. It also wasn't long until Rance's parents found out about this, and while not entirely pleased, gave their son approval of his relationship.
Years down the road when Rance was 20 and Bianca 22, their parents agreed to allow the couple to marry. After the ceremony was finished the new couple moved happily into their new home together, and a year later were blessed with a child --a pegasus colt they named Willow. Rance's parents began to worry then for their son. It would be one thing for his wife to become a sacrifice, but another thing entirely if their young son was. Their fears were only lessened slightly when the child's Ceremony of Dedication revealed he'd live a fulfilling life.
The birth of another child a year later was cause for celebration, especially when it was seen that a dazzling horn --seemingly made of some gemstone-- sat atop the golden filly's head. The filly was named Casper and at her ceremony three days later her parents and grandparents couldn't have been prouder to hear Eve predict that she'd grow up to be a kind and gentle soul who would serve her herd wholeheartedly.

1 - 10 years
The happiness didn't last long, however, as just barely a year after Casper was born tragedy struck the family. Bianca had been chosen to be sacrificed. Casper doesn't remember anything from her time in Talori and even though she knows what happened in her mother she prefers to feign ignorance to the practice she feels is barbaric.
Shortly after the sacrifice Rance fell into a state of depression, only focusing on taking care of his children. Eventually it became too much, and the fear of Willow being chosen as a sacrifice drove Rance to drastic measures. He packed up a few of his belongings and took his children and left. He had no plans on where to go, just that he needed to leave. He didn't tell his parents nor his in-laws of his plan and when they found the house empty one morning with no sign of any of them they mourned them as though they were dead.
At first, once out in the wilds, Rance thought they could make it as vagabonds but it was soon evident that that plan would not work. He had already been struggling to take care of his children while still within the herd, without it it was near impossible. It was then that a predator attack resulted in Casper gaining several severe injuries. Rance manged to save her from dying immediately, but they still needed help, and needed it soon. It wasn't long before they stumbled their way into Aodh territory, and with the help of some sympathetic horses were allowed into the city where Casper could be nursed back to health. And while she never talks about it, that attack is Casper's earliest memory, and one she still has nighmares about at times.
Casper was nearly five years old by the time she was fully functional again. She was extremely quiet though, jumping at most noises and movement --clinging always to her father or brother's side, even when they went to work. They worked odd jobs to start, just earning enough to get by, but yet refusing to sell themselves to the life of a slave.
As the years passed and Willow could do more and more work their jobs became more defined --doing more construction work than anything. Casper herself couldn't help with this, and the filly began to struggle with the feeling that she wasn't doing anything other than standing around and doing nothing to help her family.

  That was when she met Izadora.

11 - 18 years
Occasionally, when they had the extra money Rance would give Casper and Willow a bit of money and take them to the Gilded Bridge to shop around. Casper hardly ever bought anything for herself, preferring to just soak in the atmosphere of the place and window shop; it also didn't help that she never felt as though she deserved the money --she didn't work after all.
  It was on one of these trips to the bridge that Casper's life changed for the better. She had run straight into another filly by accident, having not seen the other on her blind side. Startled and embarrassed, Casper began to apologize profusely only to be hushed by the other who introduced herself as Rosaline. The two became friends almost instantly, and they met up many times after that.
On her her first visit to Rosaline's home Casper met her friend's mother for the first time. She was a beautiful draft mare by the name Izadora, and she was just removing a loaf of bread from the oven when Casper was invited inside. The bread smelled delicious and Casper couldn't resist asking how Izadora had made it. The older mare was happy to teach the young filly.
After that Casper wanted to know how to make cakes, and cookies, and everything under the sun. She began to read on the subject, and visit Rosaline's house to use her oven to experiment with her own ideas. Her friend helped her out a lot as well, encouraging Casper, never letting her give up.
By the time she was 14 Casper had a multitude of her own recipes for a variety of sweets and other baked goods, and it was then she knew what she wanted to work in --what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. She began saving up the little allowances her father gave her, and a little over a year later she had enough to set up her own stand on the Gilded Bridge to sell her 'art'.
It was about this time as well that Rosaline disappeared. Casper knows she left the city. Knows that her friend had always been far too curious for her own good. She just hopes Rosa is healthy and happy out there.

It's been three years since Casper started her little business, and it's been going very well. She is happy with what she is doing and where her life is at. Though in the back of her mind she can't deny there's some itching curiosity about the other herds; one she is far too frightened to acknowledge.
