Fun Facts-

1. Rarity has been fascinated by fashion for as far back as she can remember, with her earliest memory involving her grabbing some colorful ribbons when her mother took her along when clothes shopping for a special even that her parents would be attending. Her mother couldn't find a sitter for Rarity, so she had to bring her along. The colorful ribbons Rarity grabbed matched perfectly with the color scheme of the outfits her mother selected for the event.

2. Rarity's jacket is actually a hand-me-down, and was the jacket portion of the outfit her mother wore to that event.

3. The ribbons she wears now as part of her everyday attire are the same color as the ones back then, but are newer ribbons that she bought quite recently.

4. Rarity has a collection of ribbons in various colors to use to tie up her mane and decorate her tail in a way that perfectly accentuates and accessories hundreds of different outfits. This collection fills an entire closet by itself!

5. Rarity is the pony to tell Applejack just how insensitive it is to ask Spinel Swirl about her family and where she came from since Spinel Swirl was a victim of magical accident. Spinel Swirl had mentioned she was the victim of a magical accident early on in knowing them, but didn't elaborate beyond that yet. Rarity's family has some stories passed down the generations about magical accidents and how intrusive, insensitive, and rude it is to ask for details about that, especially when it potentially ties to why they don't have a family. This normally isn't a well-known fact among non-unicorn races, however, Rarity's younger sister is a unicorn, so her family inherited all of the journals from past unicorns in the family, and learned of these things.

6. When Rarity makes dresses for the girls for the Grand Galloping Gala, the dress she makes for Spinel Swirl has style elements reminiscent of a kimono. It's color scheme includes yellow and a dark shade of purple and white for accents. This beautiful dress she makes is identical to a dress that Spinel Swirl helped design with Sew-and-so and Masquerade back before her magical accident as a birthday gift for her elder sister Kimono. Rarity doesn't know what to do with Spinel Swirl's tears of joy upon seeing her dress, but is relieved when she doesn't ask for alterations when all the others do, all that Spinel Swirl asks is to be allowed to wear a pair of sentimental hair pins that she owns that she believes would match the dress perfectly (which they do!) and Rarity is more than happy to allow this.

7. Surprisingly, Rarity is the first pony of the Mane 6 that Applejack is able to convince of Spinel Swirl's honesty regarding her past-- although this is immediately followed by the lecture on the insensitivity of Applejack's asking and digging in the first place.

8. Rarity's fainting couch is green in this AU instead of red.

9. Green is Rarity's favorite color and she manages to include it in many of her designs that are meant specifically for her in this AU, even if only as an accent color.

10. In this AU, Rarity becomes known as being the fastest non-unicorn seamstress of high quality clothing in Equestria due to how quickly she can sew by hoof and using a machine without magic, yet still being able to produce beautiful clothing made of high quality materials.

Other--

"Why is Rarity an Earth Pony?", so I'll give my reasoning for this choice:

Because I am redesigning the mane 6 for this AU that includes my unicorn OC as a 7th element of harmony, I thought it would be interesting to to take the mane 6 and make it so once Twilight ascends into an Alicorn there is two of each pony race still in the group, like the canon mane 6 prior to Twilight's ascension. Which, technically, is completed by adding my unicorn OC into the group. However, at that point it felt like a third iteration of Sunset Shimmer/Starlight Glimmer. So, in order to create some distance from that, I wondered what it would be like if the race composition was a little bit different. So, I took three of the Mane 6 and switched their races.

The first I wanted to change the race of was Pinkie Pie, and that was into a pegasus, like she was originally conceptualized as due to being based on the G1 pony of Surprise. However, that leaves me with 3 pegasi and one earth pony. So, one of the pegasi needed to change.

I decided to change Fluttershy, she was conceptualized based on the G1 pony Posey, and had the same name as an Earth Pony from G3. However, I found it interesting that there was both an earth pony Fluttershy and a pegasus Fluttershy that were canon to the overall MLP Franchise, and thought it would be more interesting to finish a trio of Fluttershy that represent each of the three tribes, so Fluttershy needed to be a unicorn.

So now I had 3 unicorns (4 counting my OC!) and only one earth pony. Well, I wasn't changing the race of my OC, and I didn't think it'd make sense to change Twilight's race, and I was adamant on unicorn Fluttershy, so... earth pony Rarity it is. I then noticed a pattern with the sets of two of each pony race from the mane 6 as I swapped the races around that I found funny, even if it happened unintentionally: there is theme that connects each pair! Two are opposites and one isn't opposites, but rather things that are commonly treated as one and the same.

For example, since Pegasi can be born from earth ponies as long as there was at least one pegasus somewhere far back in their bloodline, Pinkie Pie, despite being a pegasus, is still born to the same family and raised on the rock farm. Rainbow Dash still grows up in Cloudsdale and goes to flight camp. The sonic rainboom still occurs, although under different circumstances for Rainbow Dash. More details about that in her redesign. These are the opposites of land and air.

Another example would be earth pony Rarity and Applejack. Applejack is a farm mare, bred, raised, and even chooses that as her destiny due to the rainboom. Rarity, on the other hand, is a city mare, no question about it-- even though she still lives in Ponyville. These are the opposites of country and city.

Unicorn Fluttershy and Twilight Sparkle both aren't the most social with other ponies-- one gets too absorbed into her work and her books, and the other spends most of her time outside and with the animals. Fluttershy can socialize with the animals just fine but experiences extreme anxiety when trying to socialize with other ponies, Twilight just doesn't care to waste her precious study time on things as 'trivial' as friendship. This is the difference between experiencing introversion and just being antisocial.

Anyways, onto Rarity's design as a whole! Here, I made her fur slightly pink tinted, in reference to the character of Rarity in G3. However, since it is such a slight reference I do not feel like tagging G3. I thought that as a fashion designer she should, you know, wear clothes when she appears. This is her basic everyday outfit/outfit she wears while she is working. She has much more elaborate outfits, hairstyles, accessories, and make-up looks for various kinds of events from visiting a theater, to going on a date, to attending the Grand Galloping Gala! The bows in the mane and tail spawn from how in G1 the ponies tended to have bows tied around their tails, and I felt a character like Rarity would prefer to have something symmetrical going on if she were to do the tail bow. Plus, the mane bow pulls her mane up and out of the way while she works, which is a bonus. The jacket is actually inspired by the jacket Pearl gets in her final reformation in Steven Universe, I found the jacket to be both stylish and professional. And for an everyday outfit that's mean to help show that Rarity has a sense of fashion, but also knows how to be practical, I felt it was a perfect fit for what I was trying to accomplish. Her cutie mark is essentially the same as canon.
