i never understood why people would choose to make Carver a Templar
as a Warden he could do what he always wanted, carve out his own path to recognition as one of the worlds saviours, as a Templar he's just another faceless sword in the horde

honestly, i personally prefer to "make" him a Templar. he finally gets to make his own decision and live by it (what he's always wanted instead of his life being defined by his sibling's decisions or living in their shadow).Β
it might not be a nice life an yeah, he is just another faceless sword (just like a warden, if you think about it), but it's /his/ decision, instead of Hawke making him become a warden to save his life.Β

i think a Warden has a more individual life, they don't follow as many orders and can come and go as they please until a Blight starts

That was never my impression of the wardens... That's basically just the bullshit Blackwall fed us. I can't remember any other warden running around solo as they please. and sure, templars may be feared and hated by many, but they are also loved and respected probably by many more in Thedas. Especially if you're a good templar, like Carver definitely is. As a warden you are a doomed person. It's the closest thing you'll get to joining the legion of the dead above ground. You can't form relationships outside of the wardens, you'll never have a family, you'll slowly feel yourself becoming your enemy, slowly feel the poison spreading, slowly going insane, and then basically commit suicide or let yourself become a monster.Β
