I didn't realize there were TWO pieces of paper, and so I just brute-forced the passwords the first time through. And then later forgot one of them, and had to do it again. And again.

So true. The first was easy but it took 20 minutes to compete. And you know that such water Linking could have drovend you in less than 5 minutes.

Hahaha, these comics are hilarious! Wish there were more of them.
And for some reason the note under the pillow was the first clue I found in that room

Hahaha oh God, this is too true xD. If a real person got thrown into this situation, they would have been toast. This would be such a scary tutorial level LOL

djkh hahaha i know right?
Actually someone actually in that situation might have a marginally better chance of at least finding all the clues, because I know I got stalled FOREVER because i couldn't find like one of the notes and crap, and you'd just be tearing that place apart.
But. Yup.

LOL, Thank you! I took so long to figure it out the first time! I actually had to cheat by going online to find out where the second piece of paper was. XD I kept worrying that I was going to run out of time and that I would have lost the game before it even started!

Yep, I promised myself that I would only use the internet once if I really needed help, so of course it has to be the VERY FIRST puzzle that I needed the extra help with! XD I ended up doing the dreaded "click on every single thing on the touch screen" technique before giving up!

emeralddarkness In reply to Lammergeier13 [2012-12-20 08:11:11 +0000 UTC]
gosh I know, right? I only very rarely went to the internet for help, and am proud to say I didn't that first time though. I would have felt pretty silly.

Lammergeier13 In reply to emeralddarkness [2012-12-21 02:14:48 +0000 UTC]
LOL, "silly" doesn't begin to cover it! I didn't know I was still missing one clue, so I thought that I just wasn't smart enough to figure it out on my own with "all the clues". When I found out online about not only the clue but how to solve the puzzle, I was like, "Well I could've done that!" So then I was angry that I had used up my internet help on something so unnecessary! So far I've gotten the "knifey-stabby-die-y" ending, and now I'm playing the second time and hoping for a better one! (of course, then I have more playthroughs to do to get all the other four, followed by playing the sequel game, Virtue's Last Reward, which has TWENTY FOUR ENDINGS! Phew!)

emeralddarkness In reply to Lammergeier13 [2012-12-21 03:09:36 +0000 UTC]
So you've only gotten the one ending? Ah, you have quite a ride in front of you :>
And yeah, VLR has a lot of endings. The good thing? You don't have to play from the start every time like you do in 999. It lets you skip stuff you've done already.

Lammergeier13 In reply to emeralddarkness [2012-12-21 03:30:47 +0000 UTC]
Oh, thank god! I'm only on my second play through and I'm already going crazy with the dialogue that I've already heard but for some reason the game doesn't think I've heard. Yes, I heard about the Gigantic! Yeah, no need to drag out the whole "9th man acts like a jerk and gets himself blown up", I'm pretty sure that'll happen for every play through!
Side question, though: When they ask you a factual question such as a math problem, and give you multiple choices, does it matter which one you pick? The first time I played, i made sure to answer correctly every time, and now it shows the correct choice as gray (i.e. you already made that choice once). Yet if I choose one of the incorrect answers it says "no that can't be right" and finds the correct answer. Does it change anything when I choose the incorrect ones?

Ok, now I've gotten the "knifey" ending, the "axey" ending, the "yellow submariney" (who knew the Beatles were so mean?!) ending, and the "safey" ending (what a mindfuck THAT one was!). Right now I'm waiting for my stupid DS to charge up AGAIN! (the battery life sucks so bad!) Then I'll get right back on it to get the other two (though someone told me that one of the two will somehow cover you for the other one, I don't know how that works).
Now, as to the "safey" ending: Did the script-writers work with the artists? Because (SPOILER ALERT for anyone else who's reading this) I couldn't help but notice that Snake had somehow regrown his left arm, and it was fully functional. He was also a super saiyan. What was that about? Can I find the director of this game and force him to explain everything in this darn game?
