A heart of gold is a pretty common expression, and one that I felt fit Yuusei's personality fairly well - I have never actually heard of the musical piece you're referring to. A bleeding heart seems a little dark for ponies, to me, but to each his own.

How in Celestia's name would they ride motercycles properly?
Still lovely piece, mainly the colorings and I do like you made Yuusei an earth pony

I don't mind it when artist let the ponies hold things in their hooves, I even support the headcanon that they can "grip things" and what ever they grab can stick to the hooves, but how do you hold the cards for non unicorns
I actually have a bit of an answer from a MTG/MLP crossover fic, the duel disks used in that are deployed from the necks and the disks levitate and move the cards for the pony using it

haha okay actually when I got serious about trying to do a MLP/5Ds crossover the riding duels morphed into galloping storytelling competitions (probably with visuals provided by a team of unicorns casting illusion)

Thank you; I'm glad you like them so much! Yuusei and Aki are my favorite characters in 5Ds, so at the moment I'm afraid I don't have any plans to do Crow. If you'd like to commission me to ponify him I'd be happy to do so, though!

Ah! Well then, lemme share a tip: if you've only seen the dubbed (english) version, and not the original Japanese with english subs, I'd highly suggest checking out the sub! 4kids changed a LOT when they dubbed it, and while the dub has its merits, overall I think that the sub is much better.

Yeah, I've only seen the dub version, but I tried watching the sub version, and it confused me! I guess once you've watched the dub version, you can't watch any other version :/

Oh, I wouldn't say that. I would say that due to the sheer amount that gets changed it might be very confusing to try to jump from, say, dub episode 23 to sub episode 24, but if you watch the subbed version I'd suggest you start from the beginning. Effectively they are different - albeit similar - shows, not just different versions of the same show. And overall, uh, things tend to make a lot more sense. The Japanese version allows the show to be more mature as well, which is nice - 4kids tends to edit out so much as a bloody nose, after all. The result is that the characters also seem more mature and also tougher, which is... really nice. Like when Yuusei was dueling the warden, his reactions were over the top for being shocked with static electricity - that's because originally, it was just normal electricity.
Heck though, I watched and loved the dub version of Yugioh Duel Monsters - the original show, with Yugi and Yami/dark Yugi and ancient Egyptian laser beams and all of that - before watching the sub version, which has some similarities in that the two versions can be very different. (and if you want REALLY different, there's the manga. Ye gods, talk about mood whiplash!)

I don't know how much anime you've watched, especially anime still in Japanese, but something that they do a lot in Japan is the opening and closing songs are just two pop songs that are completely unrelated to the show. AND THEY GROW ON YOU....
The different VAs can be kind of jarring, admittedly, but after a bit you can start to get used to them too. That was actually one of my problems with the dub, partially because I found some of the new voices somewhat grating. As to realistic - sorta, but lol this is still a show about card games on motorbikes, there's really only so far you can go into the realistic corner before realism kicks you back out again. But it's more mature overall, like I said - characters are allowed to be in genuine danger, and are put through the grinder to a far greater extent than in the dub.
Last time I checked, 4kids had made a whole lot of the sub was available on hulu.com, and they've done a really good job with the official subs, somewhat to my surprise. The characters keep their original names (jsyk some things do change - like Aki became Akiza, Ruka became Luna, Divine became Sayer, etc) and nothing is edited out and sometimes they even gasp swear (mild stuff BUT STILL) and everything. I can't say for sure if it'll still be up there, but if it isn't I really would suggest you try to track it down. In my opinion overall the plot and such makes more sense and is just plain better in the sub versus the dub. The dub has things going for it too, like I said, but honestly they changed so much that it's almost more a parody of the show than the show itself.

no wonder the theme song didn't make sense... well, you've got me interested!! I am going to watch the sub version right now!! Thanks for telling me! I'm sure after awhile I'll get used the different names (seriously, Divine and Sayer have NOTHING in common!)! Thanks again!! ^^

YUP! As I understand it the theme songs written specifically for the shows aren't something Japan tends to do as much - they take popular songs, cut them down to about a minute in length, and slap them on the front of the episode! So the intro songs aren't quite theme songs, I guess, because they don't really fit the theme, it's just songs for the opening sequence. And it tends to be good music, so it can be nice, but it is a little weird to transition from the American theme songs which typically include the name of the show like 50 times and major themes to something that includes neither of those things. The opening song for season 1 of 5Ds is called Kizuna - here's the full version , and the opening for season 2 is called Last Train -ζ°γγζ- , and the full version of it is over here . I prefer Kizuna in its pared down form, but I really like Last Train.
Sometimes the names are close, sometimes the names are less... close.... Like in the original Yugioh, the main character kept the name Yugi, but Honda became Tristan, Jounouchi became Joey, Anzu became Tea, etc. And the other Yugi actually got a name, albeit briefly, because this happened before 4kids realized that the pharaoh not having a name was actually kinda a plot point! WHOOPS. So he got named Yami by the dub and then that was never mentioned again. In the original version, he's just called the dark Yugi or the other Yugi mostly - Yugi calls him 'the other me'. 5Ds is handled pretty similarly. Yusei stays Yusei (or Yuusei, all kinda depends on which translation you prefer - I like the double u because it is a long u sound but oh well), but Aki became Akiza, Ushio became Trudge, Mikage became Mina (I think? It's been a while), Ruka/Luka became Luna (the r/l sounds are interchangable in Japanese SO SOME PEOPLE ROMANIZE IT ONE WAY, SOME THE OTHER...), Rua/Lua became Leon, Divine became Sayer and became a slightly campier villain than his original suave, magnificent bastard self, and Jack Atlus just stayed Jack Atlus, because you do not change Jack, he changes you.
Anyway, the entire dub can be pretty campy - there was this joke going around for a while that once the dubbers hit about episode 6 they realized that actually it would be impossible to censor the show and do it well, so it effectively became a parody of itself - which means that it's. sort of charming, in a loltastic way? But yeah I just don't think it does nearly as good a job of actually telling the story.

Haha, Yuusei is pretty darn stoic. And huh, really? I always kind of liked the way sub Yuusei screams (shut up he's got a kind of pretty scream /sob), but I don't think I've heard dub!Yuusei. They just had him moaning a lot in the prison episodes, which is where I most clearly remember him screaming.
IIRC Crow probably has the worst mouth of out the characters, Yuusei just doesn't say a lot ever. He's more of an action type man.
The dub has it's good points, but like you said - it's meant for children. And 4kids heavily censors it as a result, which means we don't get things like SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER Carley dying.

Yes, the purple mist of doom does not exist in the sub, and only in the magic world of the dub can you fall that far and merely be sent to the shadow realm. Or whatever it was that happened.
I just watch those episodes and every time I am very deeply impressed with his VA, and hope he didn't hurt his voice.

THAT'S THE DUB FOR YOU.
One of my favorite parts of the dub is Yuusei and Aki's (okay Yusei and Akiza's) first duel, at like episode 23? Where they failed to take out the bondage references to the extent that they actually added more. I'm pretty sure the writers and creative team were just seeing how much crap they could get away with at that point I mean seriously. That episode is ridiculous and I just laugh and laugh every time.

Oh he's totally flirting, but there are gems like "She's actually enjoying my pain!!!!" with Yusei sounding bizarrely excited about this and "Now I know what makes you feel good - now let me show you what makes ME feel good!" as Akiza is tying him up and whipping him. And how Ivy Shackles becomes a freakin equip card for Rose Tentacles. Ahh I love it.

it's funny and creepy and weird all at the same time! every time i see the episode, im saying to the tv "don't do it, akiza!! You will love him after he saves you from acoma!!" yeah, then of course someone walks by, giving me that "oh boy, she's at it again" look and then they walk away. Kinda awkward.....
