I decided I felt like drawing Solar Flare. So I did.Speedpaint, she took a little over an hour I guess.
edit: so about 3 seconds after I hit submit I realized I'd forgotten her cutie mark. Whoops. Ah well, it's there now.

Basically, though, I was making a role reversal comic where Celestia turned evil instead of Luna, and followed this logic: Luna is blue and turns black, so Celestia (who is a very light pink) should turn red! And the flame mane and tail was super easy, I mean solar theme.

Nice interpretation of this concept! Makes sense that the NightMare version of Celestia would be a deep red, since she has white fur (and a pink outline), while Luna has dark-blue fur and NightMare Moon has black fur (with a blue outline). The fiery mane and tail are a nice touch, since dehydration, drought, and raging fires would be symptoms of unending day.

'Bout freaking time someone did their "evil Celestia" as a NMM counterpart rather than that "Trollestia" crap ...
But, in all seriousness, I love the idea of Solar Flare almost as much as I love Nightmare Moon (and to clarify, I'm a big NMM fan!), I just wish this is the direction that fanon took their "evil Celestia" idea. Trollestia messes with naive fans interpretations of Celestia's canon characterization, making them think Celestia really is evil; Solar Flare would be to Celestia as Nightmare Moon would be to Luna. But noooooo...

Honestly I think canon Celestia is a bit of a troll - if not a malicious one, as she just likes pranking anyone who is too on their dignity. (And I love NMM too, nice to meet a fellow fan!)

That is what the Flare is trying to reference, unfortunately there just. aren't really any good puns with the sun like there are with the moon - Nightmare Moon practically wrote itself, the very language helped in its creation.

I think this might be one of the only nightmare versions of celestia that actually changes her coat color.
And I REALLY like it, it distances her enough from her original form to make her look far more imposing c:
