The soft echo of hooves clicking on rocks drifted through the empty landscape dotted with robotic pieces. The whisper of voices carried across on the wind was even softer, barely audible. There was a small blue alicorn trotting across the land, with two figures riding upon its back, a smoky gray kitten and a bright orange fox.

" Flare? What is he going to do to my sister? " The kitten asked, bouncing up and down gently from the alicorn's momentum.

" Ash, I do not know... " Flare replied, her cloak billowing softly in the breeze.

" Guys! I see the base in the distance! " The alicorn blurted out, pointing her hoof to the gray hue on the horizon.

" Good eye, Dawn. Now, let's keep going... " Flare said, her voice calm despite the dire situation. Ash sniffed, his eyes going misty.

" Ash, don't cry... We'll get her back... " Dawn assured, her pace slowing down. Ash nodded slowly, his usually lively amber eyes gone dull from sorrow.

When Emerald isn't around... Ash is like a different person... Flare thought solemnly, her bright scarlet eyes dulling a bit along with Ash's. The Fennekin shook her head suddenly, pushing away that thought.

" Dawn! How much further? " Ash questioned.

" We're getting closer... " Dawn replied, her eyes reflecting the light of the noon sun. Ash peered over Dawn's shoulder and saw the once small gray hue had shifted into a huge deep smoke gray building.

" Dawn, may you please pick up the pace? " Flare asked urgently. Dawn nodded and sped up her pace to a gallop, her hooves now making stomping noises on the rocks and pieces of robots. Ash and Flare bounced higher on Dawn's back with her increase of speed. Flare narrowed her eyes to block the gales blowing into her eyes. Ash's fluff was billowing around in the strong breeze. Dawn was like an untamed horse on the loose, sprinting towards freedom. She was like a blur darting across the landscape.

Wow... I've never seen Dawn run this fast... Ash thought, surprised at the great speed. I guess she thinks this mission is as urgent as it gets... Ash saw the menacing gray building swell in size as the small team approached.

" We're here. " Dawn neighed, lowering her wing to let the cat and fox off. Ash and Flare slid down the midnight blue wing and landed on the course grass. Their mouths gaped open at the comparison between them and the base. Dawn trotted over to the door and placed her hoof on the doorknob. She shivered at the cold metal prickling at her skin and slowly turned it. Ash shot ahead and straight into the building.

" Ash! " Both Dawn and Flare screamed and bolted after the feline. The three darted through halls and rooms, calling for the missing cat. They soon arrived in a huge room with wires, robotic pieces, and gigantic machines everywhere.

" Emerald! " Ash screeched, his eyes watering again. Flare's ears pricked at the sound of a cackle and she darted in front of Ash, to protect him. She let out a growl as she saw a red suited man step out of the shadows.

" So... You followed her all the way here, I see... " The man said, towering above the three.

" I want my sister back! " Ash cried, his voice echoing through the room.

" Well, here she is... " The man gestured to a part of the room where the light was dim. Suddenly, as on cue, something stepped out of the darkness. Ash didn't need a second guess to know who the figure was.

" No... " Ash muttered, his eyes wide with fear. " No! " He screeched.
