The sketchbook prompt was "tranquility."This sketchbook assignment was inspired by a song called "Sleepsong" by Secret Garden . It's like a lullaby, and I love it. It's one of the sweetest-sounding and peacefulest songs I've ever heard. Because this was inspired by a song with which I associate peace and tranquility, it relates to the prompt "tranquility". To me, tranquility = silence or soothing sounds + soft, glowing lights. So I used space as my setting, a quiet (technically silent) place containing stars.
The sleeping girl is with a woman who is a constellation of stars. She's like a gurdian angel, watching over the little girl and guiding her through her dreams. The boat represents the journey on which the little girl is going in her dream.
I had to use an insane amount of computer editing to get rid of the unavoidable glare of the light on the black acrylic background and to make the stars look their actual color, but I had fun editing it.
