Another The Bostonians pic...see I Will Not Succumb (in my gallery) for the full explanation. So this is a sketch of Verena in the very final scene of the book, when Basil taked her away and she pushes her hood back and she is crying. The last line goes something like, "It is to be feared that with the union, so far from brilliant, into which she was about to enter, these were not the last she was destined to shed.", basically saying that she won't have any kind of good life with Basil. That is TOTALLY not a happy ending. Argh. DX
So this is what I think Verena looked like as she was leaving the Music Hall with Basil. Yeah.
And, just as a side note, all of my The Bostonians pix so far were done in middle to late August.
