History:

The Tachyon Arrow is Capitols crowning weapons achievement. A massive benchmark in the kinetic weapons development the Tachyon Arrow was first conceived by the Union of Worlds as a new capital weapon armament for its ships, however after it was discovered that containing and producing Tachyons was extremely unstable and could prove just as dangerous to themselves as the enemy the Union scrapped the project. However Capitol agents managed to steal the designs and though the self destructive tendencies have not been fully overcome Capitol is eager to put the destructive weapon to action. Tachyon Arrows are now Capitols most feared weapon, able to destroy other more advanced ships easily the nation happily sees the benefits far outweighing the problems and so the occasional turret detonation is easily dismissed.

It is due to this now the Capitol is constantly trying to upgrade its Tachyon weaponry and also trying to miniaturise it, the formation and storage of Tachyons takes up large amounts of power and so so experimental armaments for both infantry and vehicles have been created, but for now the TA weapons system stays almost exclusively Capitols main space bound weapon.

Tachyon Arrows have since become Capitols staple main weapon system, gaining the help of other APP factions such as the Silent Ones, EPA and Triarch Industries the miniaturisation of TA tech has advanced to the point of hand held weapons in the hands of Hydra Guard or the increased ROF TAs found on the new Madon Class cruiser. Such advances have been made to increase reliability so that TAs do not suffer from melt downs or spontaneous explosions due to dubious containment methods leading them to be an incredibly feared weapon in the galaxy.

Function:

Tachyon Arrow weaponry works around the principle of the creation, containment and then firing of Tachyons. These are faster than light particles that usually cannot interact with other particles, for the very nature of FTL means they cannot interact normally with the conventional universe. However, it IS possible to get Tachyons to react with the universe at their FTL speeds, which cause immense damage on impact due to kinetic impact energy. First the Tachyons themselves are generated in a heavily contained chamber, this chamber uses microlasers to create a micro star and then collapse it in upon itself into an event horizon, effectively creating a small black hole. However this small black hole collapses on itself in the space of a few nano seconds and as it dies it gives off hawking radiation as well as elusive Tachyons. After these Tachyons are produced they are then stored in a stasis unit which draws power directly from the ships reactors. When the ship is required to fire the Tachyons it releases them in the form of a glowing yellow bolt. However due to the FTL nature of Tachyons these particles can ONLY interact with conventional matter when given charge by the units in the turrets barrels. This means the Tachyon will interact with conventional matter until it looses its charge due to Cherenkov radiation effects. This means the Tachyons have incredibly long range as they loose their charge and turn back into unconventional particles. As well due to their nature you cannot observe Tachyon Arrows. The FTL nature means the bolts themselves cannot be directly observed by the firer or the target and only when the bolt passes can you see two after images, one of the bolt approaching and the other of it departing but only for a microsecond or so.

When under the effects of an Interdiction field Tachyons travel slower than the speed of light, effectively turning them into a light speed level solid projectile particle weapon. However at such speeds the TAs while no longer being often the instant hit weapons they are renowned for turn still deal serious damage to the target on impact.

Effectiveness and Use:

Tachyon Arrows are extremely effective weapons, though before the upgrades they lacked accuracy at range due to their FTL nature the bolt can both deviate and not be observed by the firer. Capitol to somewhat combat this at range used musket line tactics with massive barrages being fired in an attempt to get one hit. However when a Tachyon Arrow does hit the results are often rather explosive. Since Capitol has upgraded the TAs to become as accurate as other weapon systems, meaning they can be used as sniper rounds rather than musket line tactics of old.

Due to the speed of the round the bolts themselves when impacting enemy shields or armour transfer monumental impact energy to the target. 4 Tachyon Arrow shots are enough to down the new Union Mark 5 Crenelated defence shields on a cruiser and one to two shots then against the ships armour would easily smash it apart. Even Tachyon Arrows being used against larger ships like battleships or even dreadnoughts have resulted in extreme damage to the target. The effects themselves are like a railgun however far more powerful, the bolt itself has enough energy to go through multiple unshielded targets however shields seem to be able to stop bolts easier. Shots can either tear ships apart due to the sheer energy released or they can cause massive detonation of the ships themselves. Either way Tachyon weapons are incredibly destructive.

Capitol now use Tachyon weaponry on all their ships they can, apart from their nuclear bombardment cannons and escorts every ship class mounts at least one center lined Tachyon Arrow. However the feared Trident battleship boasts 27 of these mighty armaments, enough to put fear into the enemies of Capitol, and if not send them to an early grave. The new super dreadnought they have constructed though has 144 Tachyon Arrows and a new experimental Tachyon Obliterator, an even more terrifying version. Additional research is going into smaller and more safer Tachyon weapons for both ships and ground troops but for now. Capitol has their prize weapon.

Video Footage:

No footage of Tachyon Weapons exist due to their FTL and hard to observe nature.

So it's shooting a beam (three beams) of yellow Tachyons (nice to know, because now I can make a accurate FX sprite for use in the battle scene ) also the medium turret shoots RPG like projectiles?
And the CIWS unit shoots flak I guess,
