I want to cry, I'm so grateful for this! All three tutorials are very, very helpful. I just inherited watercolor paints and tools and I had no idea where to even begin. Little things like "make sure brushes are new and not dull for details" are so useful. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this!Β

I put 2 transparent films under my artwork to reduce brightness [but if your scanner is not bright then it is not needed, that is just my old method], but right now I'm using scanning software that came with my photo scanner via CD-Rom [HP G4050], I was kind of silly that I haven't used its own software sooner, it has all necessary features to scan and adjust picture without using other tools such as transparent film. , and the result is pretty good and decent.
[before that I scanned with photoshop most of the time, which is not good enough]
and from my experience, all-in-one scanner/printer is terrible for artwork scanning,I prefer photo/film scanner, they are a bit more expensive, but really worth it, I bought my HP G4050 since 2009 and it is still functional properly.Β

I need your help Emper please ok so when i use wet on wet it splashes EVERYWHEREE and yh also for hair and skin do u base colour then wait? For it to dry or.. do u use wet on wet?
π: 0 β©: 1
emperpep In reply to inazumagalaxy [2015-12-29 08:03:51 +0000 UTC]
if you use wet on wet, watercolor is supposed to spread , maybe try reducing amount of paint loading in your paintbrush, Β
and when I added base color,Β I usually added 2nd or 3rd wet colors along with first color [wet on wet] to make gradation, when I add only single base color without adding additional color, that object seemed to look a bit dull and lifeless.

inazumagalaxy In reply to emperpep [2015-12-29 14:37:36 +0000 UTC]
So basically i just shade with ok just a sec
So i take so colour and water then colour skin while its wet i take another colour and it splashes everywhere is that how its supposed to work?

emperpep In reply to EllisMichel [2015-10-07 19:23:46 +0000 UTC]
I'm not so compatible with darker skin, but I usually used burnt sienna for base color, and used burnt umber for shadow, or mix burnt sienna with payne's gray for shadow.
it also depends on picture temperature, Β if it is cool tone, I might have to mix cool color into the mix [such as diluted ultramarine],
and used warm yellow/orange such as gamboge for warm tone mixingΒ

XD You use the same palette as I do hahaha
What color pencils do you use? I have Prismacolor softcores but I'm worried it's too waxy for watercoloring.

emperpep In reply to IchigoNyannn [2015-04-17 04:07:26 +0000 UTC]
I used colleen colored pencils for touch up, also polychromos for better quality, but I prefer colleen because they are cheap and good for touch up.

oops sorry, im really sorry >.< i wanted to ask if we want to blend colors, when can i blend it? when its still wet or already dry? sorry im not good at english
π: 0 β©: 1
emperpep In reply to honekonekochi [2015-03-26 12:30:20 +0000 UTC]
You can blend color on both wet and dry surface, if the surface is wet, watercolor will flow and requires less effort (depends on watercolor quality), if it is dry you will have to blend it with your paintbrush, both techniques require some painting skills though.

When you forgot the hands, and went over the dark pillow color with the skin tone, how did you get the color so solid? In other words, how is the color so clear, not muddy at all? Is it just the high quality of the paint?
π: 0 β©: 1
emperpep In reply to Hetaliavodka [2015-03-07 14:27:34 +0000 UTC]
I used copic opaque white
copic opaque white is really opaque, its covering power is much greater than white gouache, when used at full strength, it can cover that black sofa without any problem.

Hetaliavodka In reply to emperpep [2015-03-07 14:39:15 +0000 UTC]
I thought you used copic opaque white to make the paint colors transparent?
π: 0 β©: 1
emperpep In reply to Hetaliavodka [2015-03-07 15:50:38 +0000 UTC]
I guess you asked 2 questions but I've only answered one.
I use artist quality watercolors to make good quality watercolor painting, artists watercolors contain very few extender and have high amount of pure pigment, so they will not get muddy like student grade watercolor.
[also look really clear and brilliant]

I added them using sense, I had to practice painting clothfolds regularly though.Β

Do you outline your pictures with pencil or pen?
π: 0 β©: 1
emperpep In reply to Explosion245 [2014-11-23 01:04:22 +0000 UTC]
Β I prefer pencil, draw with low hand pressure, pen feels somewhat to dark/bold for my art style.
I motly used colored pen to drawΒ outlines or coloring small details when I'm done with coloring
