Description So my friend JerzeeGirl did this interesting Faery for a friend as a tattoo;

and I liked the piece alot and felt all inspired and decided to have a go at something similar...

and this be the results... I will probably digitally clean this up becuase the scanner is still in storage and this was, unfortunately, an IPHONE photo of my sketch book! Ah but alas, you can still SEE her at least. Im liking the way she is comming along.

I'm an ex-pro ballet dancer and I love the leg lines! You nailed the feet too. I'm currently looking for a tattoo design for my rib area that is a dancing fairy.

Many thanks, as a pro contortionist and former Rhythmic Gymnast, I do tend to over do it with the angles sometimes, just because thats what my body is trained to do and the line is familiar to me... but anyway glad youlke it. Great photos in your gallery as well.

What is it specifically your looking for in a dancing faery? I mean who is she, what is her color scheme, what does she represent to and for you? just curious... I find it helps to have specific ideas when your looking for something, even if it is just for an over all feel, that helps exclude things from the search. Also what bits and pieces of other things catch your eye, because alot of times the best thing to do is collect all the pieces you want and have it assembled just for you.

I'm so glad you wrote back! Your work is just beautiful!

I already have one tattoo (which is in need of some retouching due to age). The one I have is a representation of Giselle, one of my favorite ballets. I originally wanted the next one to represent Artemis (akaiana), goddess of the hunt. Diana and Actaeon is another of my favorite ballets. Here is a link to the Pas de Deux: [link] If you notice that during her solo variation (m5:30) she carries a traditional hunting bow. She also is closely associated with the moon which is why in the ballet she is wearing a crown with a moon. This is a neat image of Artemis b/c the bow also looks like a moon, the feet and leg positioning of the girl are terrible though: [link] As for placement, I'm thinking of my right ribcage or right shoulder, it all depends on her positioning and lines and what looks best with the natural lines of the body. I have a dark skin complexion, not sure exactly what color scheme. Does this help?

LOL sometimes it takes me a while to get back (busy girl and all) but if I get a comment that provokes a discussion I definitely try to add to it.

I also have a dark complexion, so color is always hit or miss, but some people, especially with tattoos it is a factor to consider. I mean if I am thinking pink and you are thinking green... things get confused awfully fast.

Im actually quite familiar with Artemis, My mother had a real love of Greek Mythos (as one of my middle names is Andromache') and I have always been a moon baby. I also have a weird and somewhat obscure little tribute to her as well, in that I have Dobermans and Miniature Pinschers, and I have a tendency to have a sorrority deal happen (like Dianna I am fond of female copany, so there tend to be a sorrority thing with my creature companions) Anyway my Minpins used to go for Midnight hunts (for white hare, as minpins cant take a stag... not that there even were stag where I was at the time) in Alaska on full moons in the spring and summer. But the tradition of Artemis' hunting priestesses (who were called "Bitches"... Im not kidding here) used to do their moonlight hunts to honor the goddess by coursing their hounds (who were also almost always female). Anyway... I digress, and say I have always had a fondness for greek mythos as well and am better versed in in than most.

So back to Design elements... from the ballet, are you thinking of an Arabesque possition while aiming the bow at the moon? (which is an interesting colection of visuals) or are you thinking of having her bow BE the moon? ...just trying to get into your head and see what your seeing...

I'm not exactly sure about her positioning or whether the bow and moon should be one. If she was in an arabesque it would have to be a low one, maybe with her arching back to looking up at moon, which could actually be her bow. The shoulder that is shooting the bow could open slightly toward the viewer as she arches back slightly. Or she could be in the air, front leg bent inward, back leg extending slightly down and back. Do you think the bow might be too much for the design, I'm just not sure if it would overwhelm the her or not. There is also a signature pose in the Pas where the horns blow and she cups her hand to one ear. That is a neat concept (her listening). I guess the trouble is knowing how all this would translate to tattoo. I would love to place it on my ribcage. I have a bit of a short torso so that doesn't give us much room. As you can tell I don't really have any concrete ideas, just a mixed bag of inspirations. As gifted as I am with movement and dance, when it comes to drawing I'm terrible. Haha.

Last evening I did some sketching, just to wrap my mind around ideas, and of course sort of ran with my own...

from the ballet link, assuming Arabesque:

from artwork I looked at to remind myself how a toga fits!

Another neat thing about Artemis is that she was said to help women during childbirth, as a kind of doula. Mothering the mother.

Holy Shit! What? Were you upset that I borrowed your idea for Scrying the Dancing Smoke? (I hope not) This drawing kicks ass and blows mine right out of the water! I'll have to show it to my friend. Did I mention HOLY SHIT?

I wasnt upset at all! I thought yours was very very cool! It made me want to have another GO at that one also... but currently Im attacking "The Tamed Stallion" again, to fix some of the things about the first one that I didnt quite feel happy about. Im in this place where Im just going after alot of my older stuff to reinvent it, I got some big canvases and am going to start painting them now, so Im trying to get my focus back on shapes.

I didnt mean to sink your battleship! LOL I just went through my old stuff and found a couple of old "comission" Faeries, and then yours popped up and I liked her, so I decided to have a go at her! I am not really happy with the way her hair or wings quite turned out, so I was going to go back and hit them again (inbetweeen MILKINGS... yes I am now a DAIRY human!) but I liked the way she was gazing into the crystal ball... it has sort of a peacefulness calmness about it.

I was also thinking about making her go all Rhythmic Gymnasticsy with the ball... but didnt get arround to sketching that out before my scattered mind hit another subject! I've got all this creative energy right now and just not enough time or energy to channel it all! Its a little frustrating... Again I think it has something to do with the "production" of late, (kind of a bad breastfeeding joke) There will be a Myspace blog!!!

So I hope you like her at least!

Yep, I not only LIKE her, I faved her, and am blown away again by your incredible talent. I know I keep improving, but you're worlds ahead of me. I bow to your experience. Heh.

LOL you should print her out and attack her with color!

Actually probably need to hit her up in the Photo shop program to get the background whiter and turn her more into line art... hmmm...
