Zanzibar⦠The Spice Island. Centuries of history full of glory, unparalleled natural beauty and most importantly, an abundance of Swahili culture.
Elections are due in Zanzibar next year and the people of Zanzibar MIGHT vote for independence from Tanzania. The Island was an independent sultanate until the 1960βs and is mainly Muslim, culturally very different from the majority Christian mainland.
The Island displays the most colorful interpretation of Islam I have ever seen anywhere. Pink, yellow, blue, in true african style.
Go there before it becomes Marakesh.
