It's very cool! It's a bit dark, for my monitor at least, so it's hard to make out any details... But from what I can see, it's cool to see you playing with such dark tones!

uh-oh, it's not supposed to be THAT dark. I looked at it on my phone and apparently the saturation on my computer is so low that my actual drawings are more saturated than I see them.Β
I'm going to lighten it up real quick and see how that looks. I wish I could fix my computer's color settings. ugh

That's one of the major setbacks with digital.. Not everyone sees it exactly the same! Which is why dark, deep tones are a really brave move. XD

Another reason why I get nervous using dark colors.
Well, I lightened it a bit, so hopefully it doesn't look thatΒ dark anymore. Because it was never my intention to have the area by their feet to be completely black. I wouldn't have spent so much time on her boots if I was going to black it out later...

Hmmm, it still looks very dark to me. I can't make out the boots at all. But that's not bad... I would have just made the light from behind them have a bit more power on where it hits them, because the entire image is just washed out with darkness. Check this out:Β

See how the people are pretty much all black except for the places the fire light reaches? Then the lit areas are very intense, compared to the shadows. That's a tricky effect to get right, and takes a strong grasp of lighting. But if you got this effect, even if a slight bit duller (because they are farther away for the light source), it would really punch up the image, through contrast.Β

Welp... I'm not a fan of the drawing anymore. Maybe I should just stay away from dark tones until I get a better grasp on lighting.

Awe, don't get discouraged! Doing pics like this is how you get better! Staying away won't help at all. It's not bad, it's just hard to see, that's all. what I can see looks good! The character expressions and all that looks great! It's just the lighting, which isn't that big of a deal, and could be easily fixed, actually. Just add a new light layer under the line layer of the characters. An orange Luminosity layer masked to the characters is what I use. Even a thin orange line (rim light) on their left would add a lot.Β

I kinda did all the edits in a photoshop file where the layers were merged, so I'm not sure how to fix that now and honestly I'm tired of trying with this image. I've spent over 8 hours on it and I shouldn't have finished it while barely awake, apparently. haha
