Description When the UC (United Colonies) decided to take back the wasteland, they knew they needed much more than just tanks. Β The Freki Battlewagon was built upon old world wreckage/salvages as cost saving measures but has been upgraded to survive and dominate. Severing as an all-round utility vehicle, it's highly valuable in recon, salvage and Odin support. Highly mobile, fast, rugged and with ample stowage space, a single Freki can travel for days in the waste without resulpply. For the scrum that is encountered, a modified mounted rail gun, back dual mounted machine guns and smoke launchers can easily eliminate most threats. Working independently,in a pack or by Odin's side, the Freki are as deadly as a ravenous wolf.

This is my finished 1/35 kitbashed Humvee. Built up from an old and very crappy kit, with added kitbashed, photo etched, scratch built and resin stowage details. Painted with enamels and weathered with art acrylics and MIG pigments.
I built this Humvee to hopefully match my Odin tank for an upcoming diorama. While I am not 100% happy with it, it will need a bit more weathering and maybe a few more details (flag, forgot antenna too lol) I do like it allot more than the first time I built it. The kit was really crappy, so everything was a bit warped and off and details really lacking, while I feel like I upped the detail a bit, I'll have to buy a better Humvee kit someday and bash that too XD

Anyways sometime after the holidays Ill get to work on the diorama for this and the Odin tank. Should be a solid amount of work and fun, so I am a little excited to get it started. Thanks to everyone that helped me brainstorm names for this thing and BIG thanks to for suggesting Freki. Β As always questions comments and suggestions are welcome.

All the little details you put on, like the mud splatters and the rust, and the dark lines for the mattress… My patience would have dried up a LONG time before that.

The "abused" appereance that you give to your works remainds me a childhood memories. When the first Star Wars was released I was six or seven (I don't remember the release date here in Italy) I went to the cinema on summer, an open cinema, front row, and when it begins I forgot to blink till the end, cause all seemed so real. One of the strongest elements to create this illusion was the used and dirtyΒ appearance of the ships andΒ other means, very different, for example,Β Β to the "clean and perfect" Enterprise or all of what we had seen until then. Your dioramas are the same, but much better. You should work for Hollywood!

thank you very very much! star wars blew my mind as a kid and really inspired me(still does) your right the thing that makes it really believable is all the dirt and age on all the ships.
as a kid i wanted to grow up to make the models and such, unfortunately CGI has taken over most of that need. but hey i cant conplain, i have alot of fun with my hobbie and how knows maybe someday, ill find a way to use these skills to make a little money lol.

CGI has infinite possibilities in it but, to say the truth, has stolen most of funny in watching sf or fantasy films!! The great question: "How did they do this?" has ever the same answer: "They drew it..." Bleah. With all the respect for all the amazing artist who realized films in CG (^ ^), when I was a child, every styrofoam packing became The Black Death in my fantasy, 'cause I where guided to think in this way by great films ...
I think you would gain lots of money selling your models, and in Hollywood you could become the consultant who makes credible the environments (I don't konw if this figure exist, but it should be in every SF film, I think).

Ahhh yes! There are allot of classic films of my childhood that had brilliant piratical effects and scale models. I think it takes allot of talent to make the CGI but in the ways you describe is immersive breaking (cause our brains KNOW its computer generated) some recent sci-fi movies and others have employed CGI with scale models, that creates very nice effects. Have both work with each out seems to be the best rout.

But I am still a beginner in allot of ways and have allot to learn. I am always trying new things and trying to improve my skills. I have really only been building/painting for about 2 years. Maybe years from now when I am a master, opportunity will unlock for me. But regardless of where my hobbies brings me, I am happy just making them XD

The same for me... is not for gaining is for the pleasure of doing something unique!

Happy to know that CGI is marrying models!! ^ ^

enc86 In reply to Shay-Tank-Dragon-41 [2013-12-20 13:13:20 +0000 UTC]

this was an older academy...one of the kits that made me realize how much i hate them. i mean it came from a cheap box lot and was a gift so i cant complain too much but man i would not recommend this release. lacking in detail, poor to very bad fits and IMO the proportions are just a bit off.
ill have to get a better Humvee kit to bash at some point now......
