Dovie'andi se tovya sagain - It's time to toss the dice.Another Wheel of Time fan art..100% imagination, no references. This time my most favorite character in the entire series! Mat
This started off as a sketch of a Dark Friend in Tar Valon but quickly changed to Mat going into the Dark Chambers in Shadar Logoth. This is when he finds the Ruby Dagger and Mordeth. Hope you guys like it Updated with some more texturing and detail. Will probably revisit for more polishing in the future.

Thanks a lot! I thought they all had swords during the flight from two rivers. I know they were aware of the dangers in Shadar Logoth and were pretty nervous. I will have to read that chapter again to verify.

As I've written under your Lan&Nynaeve picture I love all your paintings. But this one is my favourite. Maybe because Mat is my favourite character out of Wheel of Time, but mostly because I like how he looks in this picture. Looking down into the dark the sword redy before him, leaving the light behind. I just love it

Mat is also my favorite character! I really liked the idea behind this particular painting, but unfortunately I ran out of creativity and left it as is without details and polish

It has been rather slow for me since book 6
Fortunately I have the audio books now so I can listen while I paint. I don't think it helps that I am reading all the books through at the same time.

lol! He is definitely my number 1 no doubt about it. I always like mischievous characters.

That's... a very unusual Mat. I'm mostly talking about his face. Usually he's grinning or looking really bratty but you actually took on what I always imagined in Mat - that he's, in fact, rather handsome in that "too pretty" way - something that many characters (usually females) point out. I like this, it's unusual.
And the Shadar Logoth background is amazing! I seriously like this one!

This was before he got his hat. This was while they were being chased by Trollocs after leaving the two rivers. They all eventually get separated and Rand is stuck with Mat.

Oh wow! I love the atmosphere you created in this image and even though you didn't give his face a lot of detail I can still get what kind of expression he wore when he went down those stairs. Awesome piece of work!

Thank you Deborah! Yea, I was sort of going through this one very quick and sketchy. When I don't have a reference I typically draw blanks on simple details like cloth wrinkles, facial features etc. I will probably revisit this sometime to give it that much needed refinement.Β

Hey, just curious, what sorts of details would you like to see in the painting other than an actual face and for detailing of his hair and cloth? Just making sure I don't miss anything important when I actually start working on it again

Oh wow, I can't really remember a lot of details. I read so fast that the details don't really stick (well, some do). I think I would say that the structure of the building should look like, really fancy and should have intricate stonework, as Shadar Logoth was a great city once and very rich as well I believe. His clothes would have to be Two Riversians, but other than that I can't really think of anything from the top of my head.
I really like the improvements you already made! They turn the piece to life a bit more
