A sketch I did while thinking up an idea for a Honchkrow illustration. I like Honchkrow's mafia-donlike design, so I thought a scene like this would be appropriate...you know, kissing the ring (geddit?). I've never watched any of The Godfather movies (or any mafia movies) though

LOL- this scene really screams the godfather- which my comic 'Cryptic Freaks' has parodied in a few episodes. It also screams Nevermore and Fagin!

yeah- I created 'Cryptic Freaks' WAY before pokemon D/P came out and a few months before I found out about the Ruby Gloom show (like many people, i thought it was only a cute gothic character brand and the only characters on a Ruby Gloom tee I ever saw were Ruby Skull Boy and Doom Kitty) and GOSH when I 1st saw Honchkrow- the 1st thing that came to my mind- MY CHARACTER NEVERMORE! the same thing applied when I 1st saw Poe as well!

yeah- I am glad I finished school. Back at high school when I drew a cartoon blonde girl ( a cartoon teen in one of my previous comic series 'My far-out' teenage life'
sheeesh, I kept reminding them that's just the way I draw most human people- IT"S A FREAKING STYLE OF ART FOR CRYING OUT LOUD- It's called AMERICAN POP ART- its a style used in the jetsons, Flintstones etc. Yeah- I am glad that I am out of highschool now- if I created Cryptic Freaks around NOW and I were still at highschool they would be all like 'OMG YOU RIPPED OF TIM BURTON AND RUBY GLOOM AND.....etc etc....

*sigh* I'm still in high school, and still having trouble with the mean girls... Thank god for art and its way of letting you escape life! ^^ (and fandoms. ^^) Yeesh, yeah, some people get kinda annoying... I wonder if they realize that you can draw with similar style but still have your very own individuality with the characters and other elements... I think some people actually have problems recognizing that similar doesn't mean the same.
My little sister actually has a book by Christopher Hart that gives instructions on how to draw "Retro" style like that. ^^

Yeah, it's pretty cool. ^^The books actually gets a lot more descriptive than you'd imagine for such a simplified style! Expressions, why certain characters look their part, how to get that certain "feel" to a character.... And it even talks about retro animals!
