This lovely boy is Neverrmind 's character Tilney. I worked around 2 weeks on it, which is very fast for me! This is legitimately the first manip I've done in a year. Last one was done march 2015! Also big thanks to Lunarlueur for helping me out when I ran into a couple problems. Thanks also to empluvie , impassioned-dreams for keeping me company while streaming lol.
UPDATE 13/3/2017 - Made some edits to the colors and added a couple more details, particularly in the face. Changes made can be seen here >

Thank you! I do too, it felt kinda incomplete before, like the colors all mashed together and I really didn't change or define much on the face at first so I really like it now that I could go back and fix things!

Thank you, I personally definitely prefer the new colors to the old ones, and while that's subjective I think why I prefer it is that there is more color contrast which makes for a better composition. I'd kinda felt it looked a little incomplete or flat for a while. Artistically speaking it's really great to have contrast in the colors rather than one monotone over the whole thing (although that can work for some things) I feel like the edges between the subject and the background really just sorta ran together on the old one where as now the stark color difference of the warm and cool colors really cause the subject to pop out and really draws the eye to look at him. Also the light contrast was lower in the original, they are very similar in brightness and so they further ran together. With the updated colors, the deeper and blue tones create more depth in the picture. Aside from the technical things that make composition I really just prefer the deeper blue tones, I feel it gives it a more "deep in the woods" kinda feel, idk I like that dark woods sorta aesthetic I feel and it brings out the light source so much better and makes it much more dramatic. Anywho this is all my opinion and art is so subjective, everyone sees and experiences it in a separate way, this was just merely my thought process as to why I decided to drastically change the colors.

Thanks for the explanation! I was wondering what inspired you to want to change it so much. Although I prefer the original just based on artistic appeal (in my own opinion of course), I see how the colour changes make sense. The skull and crow are forbidding in a sense, and the dark/cooler colours of the forest appeal to that. There was something about the warmer, lighter version that I loved, although I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it had to do with the contrast between the light/warm mood and the subtle presence of death.

Actually in love with this, I can't even find how you used all the stock in this it's so blended in and looks like one picture. The attention to detail is incredible all the way into the muscle/bone anatomy of the cleft hooves on the feet. I strive for this sort of talent some day.

Oh my goodness the background blending here was insane. Looking at the creek stock even I can barely tell what I used lmao! From the creek stock about 95% of it was just repainted because I had to stretch it so much to fit the background, also with the major lighting changes so much just had to be repainted. The cloven hooves were one of my favorite parts! I hate when a horse is given cloven hooves and aside from the hoof no anatomy changes so I love trying to make it as realistic as I can!

Ahh thank you so much! I'm guessing your talking about the left back leg? It was a little challenging as I basically had to repaint and redo the structure of it a little to put in the split hooves, but I was really happy with the turn out! I'm glad you like it!
