Biology

Seaslunks are darling little creatures of the ocean, featured all over wall decor and embroidery products, like that of butterflies for humans, where they are so over saturated, to appreciate seaslunks is almost basic.

Seaslunks have long noses and long tongues, like the land-animals they share a name with. However, unlike land slunks, seaslunks are TINY. Seaslunks can easily be held in one hand. They're about the size of a splayed hand, pinkie to thumb, but there is variation between types and variations. Seaslunks have two pairs of eyes, a goggly pair (similar to karmani) and a blank pair on their cheeks. Seaslunks have long curly tails that they use for grasping, 6 little limbs that don't do much of anything, and fins down their back that are used for locomotion.

Due to their similar appearances, seaslunks are the reason that karmani were first assumed to be fauna than sentient folk.

Seaslunks are very diverse in the colors that they take. They're commonly found in colorful or dark areas of the sea, such as reefs or kelp forests. Though, extreme environments can result in new subspecies appearing with unique adaptations for their unique environment. For this reason, and the way they are beloved among staxies, many domesticated species exist with a large variety of colors, patterns, and morphs, even if their appearances would make them completely useless on their own in the wild.

Like their land cousins, seaslunks are practically garbage disposal for the sea, and a great addition to a tank of fish if you need algae and waste to be cleaned up. Seaslunks will eat absolutely anything that they can lick away at. They can clear away algae overgrowth in tanks and sea biomes and get rid of any fish remains they come across. Despite their size, they have huge appetites.

Behavior

Many staxies are charmed by their affectionate behavior. They will often bond with one or more of their kind and will be extremely loyal to their partner/s. This results in them being very protective of their young, who they will tote around in a chain, linked by their tails. While seaslunks are very attentive and know exactly how many young they have, they aren't very good at warding off predators who many nibble at the free buffet. Losing their partner/s or children will result in seaslunks becoming extremely depressed. They will stop eating and be a bit more careless when it comes to their own survival. This usually isn't good for surviving sealumps, who will be protected half-heartedly as seaslunks attempt to recover from the grief.

In captivity, it can be very hard for caretakers to help a grieving seaslunk family. Caretakers may need to start showing sealumps how and what to eat themselves. This results in sealumps imprinting on their caretakers instead of their parents, which causes them to become detached from their parents, which can distress seaslunks even more. But seaslunks in captivity generally live much longer lives than seaslunks in the wild. Without predators to defend from, depressed seaslunks are able to move through their grief and may even produce more sealumps with their partner/s. Despite the emotional turmoil most seaslunks are destined for, their population seemingly keeps itself regular due to the volume of baby lumps that a seaslunk could have.

----

While being a joy to find, seaslunks are not used for any product (aside from their adorable likeness being used to sell merchandise). It's possible to eat them, but they are unappetizing and unpleasant to eat, being crunchy, chewy, and generally lacking very much nutritional value in the first place.

All things considered, despite being very emotionally driven creatures, they are a joy and appreciated by many sentimental-types in staves rest :]
