Description I painted a self-portrait recently that was actually more of a character design for myself. Now I've taken all the steps to accomplish the looks I've wished for all this time. Always having such low self esteem that I didn't dare to change my looks the way I really wanted. My self esteem has been non-existent except for my art which has been my way of expressing myself.

I've got a new rule to live by now and I wish everyone could feel good about themselves. It's horrible to live through self loathing.

Be glad you found this out early. It took me many many unhappy decades to realize that mostly everyone is so wrapped up in themselves that they don't notice the things that you think are glaring flaws.

I had one person tell me that (during the years when I thought I was so ugly that no one should have to look at me) they had thought I was exotic and beautiful. Go figure.

Beauty comes from the inside. So.....we can be anything we want to portray. You seem to be getting it all together. Good luck on your journey.

P S....I think you are exotic and beautiful. But don't worry. I am a 70 year old straight lady who has only just begun to livei!!!

Gosh, that's one of the best comments I've ever recieved! <3 It's exactly what I want to show people by sharing this. It's really horrible to live with self-doubt and loathing. I wish I had advice on how to love yourself but I don't even know what made me change. Going from complete misery to feeling truly happy and honestly loving myself for real is the best thing I've ever experienced. It also makes me appreciate and love other people more.

I'm happy you have started your real life! It's never ever too late to be yourself and just GO!

well sometimes those bad parts are the things you need to shake up your storyline and turn it around because they change us and send us on different paths. sometimes a bad thing can send you hurtling into the next best thing. You just have to ride out the storm I guess. Ignore the rain and look for the rainbow!

I recently got a tattoo of the word "Valiant" in faerie tale script on my wrist to celebrate my 2 year cancer-free anniversary. One of the reasons I got it was to remind me of a book of that name & to remind me that I can be a character in my own story too. So your quote rang true with me!

I'm happy for you! I get where you're coming from. I had a lot of my own self-loathing issues, and it took me until my 20s, when I could be away from my parents and just not give a shit, to chop off all my hair and do what I wanted. It was like something 'clicked', and I felt like 'this is me,' for the first time.

It's quite amazing how your self-esteem just shoots through the roof when you stop caring about others opinions of you and just do what you want with yourself. I don't think it matters wether you are talented, beautiful, rich or successful. Seriously, it took 24 years for me to realize what real happiness feels like. These photos are here to represent that. That's my main goal! I feel better about myself than ever and I want to spread this! So why do you do art? Probably not because you need people to love it or justify it for you. Do it because you truly love it and you will become so fokken amazing peoples eyes will pop out eventually <3

After living my whole life with clinical depression and other problems it truly feels like breathing and living for the first time ever. I know, that sounds all deep and exaggerated but truly, that's how I feel every day now. After rain comes the BUBBLEGUM!
