Description
Before I move onto two huge commissions based on King Kong and Nightmare Before Christmas, I wanted to share my rendition of The Ice Giant, who was to be one of the titular antagonists from Gamera vs The Ice Men from Outer Space - an unproduced film planned for 1966 that would eventually lead to the conceptual creations of both Baragon and Daimajin in its absence.I was originally planning to ink the original sketch and add the completed digitally colored version to The Kaiju Portraits, but considering that The Ice Giant has no official design, and the fan-fiction-style background behind my take featured above, despite the educated guess work I added while making it, I decided NOT to include such a vague Unmade Monster to that series.

Good question! Actually, that detail was meant for the smaller Ice Men themselves, while the Ice Giant was to be a more solid creature by comparison, based on the info given in the audio commentary for Shout Factory's Barugon DVD.

Nice to see some art of him! I wish there were official concepts lying around, I'm really curious what a humanoid, Showa era Gamera foe would've looked like!

Even though I put a lot of work into this design, I am one of those Kaiju fans, like yourself, that prefer to see existing production artwork and the monsters that they're connected to, including humanoid villains for Gamera.
