Shithead Asshole-ius-- oh, excuse me, Saren Arterius-- was the only villain that I *really* relished punching his ticket (even though as a diehard Paragon, I usually convinced him to commit suicide-- probably the first selfless act he'd ever had the decency to perform in his miserable life).
Sovereign *scared* me, but I hated Saren. Hated, hated, hated, hated, hated, hated, *HATED* Saren. Hated *everything* about him--even *before* Sovereign, he was an evil fucking bastard; letting all those people in that refinery (in one of the Mass Effect novels) die, and then pinning the blame on Anderson (thus fucking up Anderson's chances for being the first human Spectre), if for *NO OTHER REASON* than HE'S A GOD DAMN *BIGOT* TO HUMANS (and, if I remember correctly, he also did it for shits and giggles, which is another tick in the 'Saren is a fucking prick' column).
And while he was particularly nasty to humans, comics and novels show that Saren was, pretty much, a complete and utter *bastard* to ABSOLUTELY ANYONE AND EVERYONE HE MET; he -really- must've been a badass Spectre if the Council let him get away with such asshattery unpunished (and I even think it was implied in ME1 that the turian Councilor, Sparatus, went out of his way to cover Saren's ass, and that Saren was his 'pet' Spectre).
Thank God we had Garrus (or hell, even Nihlus) to buff the image of the turians, because the likes of Sparatus and Saren REALLY did not serve to endear me to them, at least early on.
But, I digress; in short (if you haven't already figured it out)? Fuck Saren, fuck him, and the Reaper he flew in on.

I hated Saren, but not because "he's a villain, you have to hate him", but because Bioware really made him a person you simply hate. Sovereign didn't scare me though, the only thing that comes to mind when I see him is "an asshole". But that's maybe because I'm a weird person that almost shitted her pants when Harbinger popped up in Arrival.
Even those two weren't as bad to me as Saren and Henry Lawson (Sorry, but Sanctuary was a HORROR), partially because they are killing machines built to kill (if that makes any sense) and being dicks to all life, organic or synthetic is what they do. Saren was... something familiar. Someone. Someone you couldn't help, but hate.

I didn't really hated Saren... well, at first I did. This bastard killed Nilhus and there is the story Anderson told Shepard, among a lot of other things. But when I realize he was indoctrinated, I don't know. I wanted to stop him, whatever the cost but I wasn't feeling hate toward him anymore. I even would have helped him. Even if I know he was bad before Sovereign, I wanted to help him get out of it, if it was possible. And beat is ass up, but still... I was kind of sad when I convinced him to kill himself.

I came back to make another comment. Can anyone imagine Benezia not looking evil with Magneto's helmet? I mean seriously, I was doing another playthrough and Aethyta and Liara are all on about happy Benezia with a great rack dressed in yellow which is kind of impossible for me to see.

Yeah this scene never made any sense to me why Saren had to go all apeshit like that when it is clearly not in his character. Saren is more subtle but perhaps the makers thought he was too subtle for the audience to understand
