Description Shroud your heaven, Zeus,
With cloudy vapours,
And do as you will, like the boy
That beheads thistles,
With oak-trees and mountain-tops;
You must my Earth
Now abandon to me,
And my hut, which you did not build,
And my hearth,
Whose glow
You begrudge me.

I know of nothing poorer
Under the sun, than you, Gods!
You are barely nourished
By sacrificial offerings
And prayerful exhalations
Your Majesty
And would starve, were
Not children and beggars
Hopeful fools.

When I was a child,
And did not know the in or out,
I turned my wandering eyes toward
The sun, as if beyond it there were
An ear to hear my lament,
A heart like mine,
To take pity on the afflicted.

Who helped me
Against the Titans' mischief?
Who delivered me from Death,
From Slavery?
Did you not accomplish it all yourself,
Holy, burning Heart?
And glowed, young and good,
Deceived, your thanks for salvation
To the sleeping one above?

I should honour you? For what?
Have you softened the sufferings,
Ever, of the burdened?
Have you stilled the tears,
Ever, of the anguished?
Was I not forged as a Man
By almighty Time
And the eternal Fate,
My masters and yours?

Do you somehow imagine
I should hate life,
Flee to the desert,
Because not every
Flowering dream may bloom?

Here I sit, forming people
In my image;
A race, to be like me,
To suffer, to weep,
To enjoy and delight themselves,
And to mock you –
As I do!

Thanks, it's an old piece but I still like it even if my skills have improved from that. But I still like how I rendered my idea of Prometeo, so is nice to see other people who like it!

You don't know the myth of Prometeus? It's one of the ancient and most famous greek myths. On the surface it talks of an hero who sacrificise his freedom for the freedom of humanity: he stole the fire from the Gods to give it to humans, and got punished.

On a deeper examination, is a myth about several things, such as aspiring to higher things in the life, striving for scientific and intellectual knowledge, and the risk of "overextending" that search to dangerous places/ideas.

"Prometheus (Greek: ΠρομηθΡύς) is a Titan, culture hero, and trickster figure who in Greek mythology is credited with the creation of man from clay and the theft of fire for human use, an act that enabled progress and civilization. He is known for his intelligence, and as a champion of mankind.[1]
The punishment of Prometheus as a consequence of the theft is a major theme of his mythology, and is a popular subject of both ancient and modern art. Zeus, king of the Olympian gods, sentenced the Titan to eternal torment for his transgression. The immortal Prometheus was bound to a rock, where each day an eagle, the emblem of Zeus, was sent to feed on his liver, only to have it grow back to be eaten again the next day. In some stories, Prometheus is freed at last by the hero Heracles"

damn I never played that while I had the ps2
Then I switched to xbox just because it's cost was soooo lower than PS3 at start. Now I regret not to have the ps3. Heavy Rain, Resistance 2, etc.
Well, at least Gears of Wars 2 was a lot of hell fun to play with a friend, unfortunately it ended too soon.

While I do admire the way you have rendered Prometheus, I do think that there is room for improvement on the eagle. You have the general structure of the eagle correct, but I feel that the wings aren't very believable, and it feels like the eagle has clawed hands, not talons.

Bird wings follow some very simple rules, which there are plenty of tutorials here on dA for.
As for the talons, I think you should practice drawing a variety of birds to understand where they would be located relative to the head or wings to achieve a more fierce and menacing eagle.

Keep on creating!

Erebus-art In reply to kisira [2010-05-13 10:28:29 +0000 UTC]

It was my first bird painting, and surely it has room for improvement

For the talons, I took some reference but modified them a bit because I wanted to give a feeling of movement toward prometeus. Probably I had to curve the talons a bit more, but I don't like the very curvy things I drawed, so I bent on less realism and more "tension" in the drawing.

For the wings, they are not real at all, If you watch in the wings there are textures I painted with a mystical simbol (a symbol related to vengeance and punition), and the wings are supposed to merge with the clouds and the background.
I somewhat move beetween an impressionistic/conceptual style (wich I must explore much more to be satisfied with), and a realistic one.
Someday I will find my perfect style, I hope
