You should check out Shadowrun they use a skull like this for part of the logo. (it was closer in the older versions of the game look for Sega or Snes logos of the game or the first and second editions of the books to see the old style)

OOh Eric you are coming over all esoteric! I really like this image..it is kind of "golden Dawn' ish...and sort of has a hint of spiritualism that really appeals to me personally and the clean nude really adds to the overall effect...
I am so glad to see you posting again as I was missing your wonderful work and as for your head being crazy...welll crazy people are my favorites because they are so much deeper and more interesting...not to mention creative...i look forward to more in this different kind of image...

Thank you, as always, fory our thoughts - I've lived with the image for a week or so, and am still really not sure if it will head somewhere else, or lead to other work, but I apprecaite the feedback, and am glad you enjoyed viewing the image.

It looks like a baphometic icon or something but i think you should not only juxtapose the skull on her face without also increasing its size a bit to prevent the modelΒ΄s hair from disturbing that fantasy (or perhaps placing it a little higher.
It also reminds me of an old image from a book showing an african tribe doing some dance while wearing big cattle skulls as mask.
Incredibly, your usual soft and gentle lighting fits the concept prety well (a cliched imagination would have expected something much darker).

May i suggest some session with skulls only? perhaps sometimes a ram or deer skull in the foreground of a burnt forest or a rocky landscape can be the focus of some of your wonderful pictures.

Something to think about to be sure, but my main attraction to skulls is their juxtaposition to the body, and how the forms interrelate.

In such case it's interesting that you haven't worked with a human skull (casts are not too expensive if you don't dare to get a real one) or with x-ray plates juxtaposed to body (it may sound weird but IR light is already some form of scientifical instrument used by you in an artistic way).

A human skull (reproduction or not) would be a little too creepy for me, but I have worked with medical images in the past (gallium scans, x-rays etc), so who knows what else will show up...perhaps nothing!

Thank you for your thoughts and comments - I too see something iconic or religious...just not sure where to take it. I have for years thought abotu creating a fictional mythos through photography, but am not certain if that would be taken seriously, or even be understood...

Thanks for the compliment. The two frames are one of the front of Stephanie, with her breasts, the skull, and her hips, and the other of the back of Stephanie, with her shoulders, the skull, and the back of her head.

This photo is a great mix of two frames! There is something masculine about her shoulders in the final product, which I adore.

ericbb In reply to JVarriano [2010-04-09 01:31:11 +0000 UTC]
Thanks for your thoughts...the shoulders being back on (i.e. looking at the back of her head) probably explains the masculine elements...
