It is quite a wonderful colour - I did a 3'x3' print of it, and am very pleased...but the problem is how to frame it...SO expensive!

hahahaha, yea that can get expensive. Still 9 square feet, that's awesome! I don't even have that wall space available in my room right now.

That is certainly an issue (wall space)...my plan is to print one large flower image a month until I have the core of the show printed...then the issue of how to frame them will come up, but I'll tackle that when the time comes.

Thank you (I think)...I haven't really figured out what is as the core (or perhaps heart) of these images...but when they work, I know about it...

crazy indeed, that's amazing detail. How do you do focus blending?
The flower in itself is wonderful, the lines are just incredible. How did you get the bubbles to be centrifugal like that?

Thanks again for your comment and feedback.
Focus stacking/blending is relatively straightforward - you simply take images as you focus through a subject, and then use software to blend the images together to yield one in-focus image.
As to the bubbles, that is just chance...some blocks of ice are too clouded to work with, while others are almost totally clear. No idea why.

and what soft do you use, then?

I initially used CS4 for the focus stacking, but have been playing with Helicon, which does a much better job, though I don't know it very well yet...

Unfortunately, I don't have any real directions to point you in - using Google would be a good start however. I have found that CS4's focus stacking isn't as good as some other programs - I am buying Helicon as soon as the demo expires (28 more days) as it is awesome, but there are still issues with my system which need to be worked out before I can achieve what I am looking for!

Helicon's what I came across when I googled it too... I'll try it out. Thanks!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed viewing the image...in the end, staying up to 2:30 was worth it...and I have a new tool (a new focus stacking software) to learn...but the results are pretty cool!
