When the original Supergirl appeared in the 1930s, she partnered with DC Comics to publish her very own superheroine story and detail her adventures against a series of dastardly villains. Of course, the vast majority of things that were in the comics were just patently false. While some misconceptions created by those comics were dispelled over the years with the appearance of new Supergirls, some still persist to this very day

Perhaps the biggest one is that Supergirls derive their power from the light of the yellow sun. In fact, as far as anyone knows, the Supergirls don't have any kind of power source; their powers just are. They are constantly active, require no kind of charge or energy, and cannot be depleted in any way. The story about the light of the sun was just a device used by the comics to create a bit of conflict in their stories. However, Supergirls still absolutely love to fly up above the clouds to feel the light of sun on their skin
