erik taking lots and lots of drugs...
erik's natural ability to be the most unlucky person on earth...
erik selling his soul to satan...
erik being generally stupid towards christine...
erik and christine making love at the end...
the lack of redemption of erik's soul at the end...

No, I think you`re right, but I like the way he is described, that he has a lot of BIG problems give him deepth, which needs a charakter, to be imperfect is the best way to be perfect (I sound so strange...but in Germany I should sleep some hours ago *ZZZZzzzzzz -.-*) That he sells his soul to satan is the worst to me (in the german translation they canceled this part(with some others /:<) I was so shocked when I read it. (My favourite character sells his soul to the devil? Why?! Susan!! Why!!?? D'
That Erik and Christine are making looove ('-.-) was never a big problem to me. My interpretation was always that she did not come back and thought "Well, now I will have fantastic and hot sex with the Phantom while he is dying" More like that she comes back sees him dying and wants to be with him the last hours and that it just developed after a time in that way, not that one of them planed, it`s just an simple act of their love for each other.
That`s the thing I love the most about the book, we are sure K!Christine loves him :'D and he gets..I will call it a happy end. (Woman loves him, son)
With the lack of redemption I disagree. I love the way Leroux did it, ...just a kiss on the forhead, and it`s over and he has to die of broken heart ( I really have to read my Leroux again *sniff*)
But I also like the way of Kay. When I read the book I felt the strain between Christine and Erik and after the kiss it was over. Like Erik said:"It was finished then, of course...that kiss ended everything." And after that Erik was free of his obsession and Christine was clear about her feelings for him.

I don`t want to convince you but it`s cool to talk with somebody who don`t like Susie`s book so much like the others.(And your arguments are good )

sorry, late response. I totally get you too. Maybe someday I'll see a copy of the Kay's on sale at some goodwill and check it out again. It's been years! But yeah it wasn't my favorite but it had some good parts.
