Description watercolour

Beware, lost and lonely stranger, do not follow the lights in the darkness, you do not know who holds them...

For #GrimGloomTale 's 'haunted' contest

I haven't read very much that fits with this theme, but what did come to mind was a will o' the wisp, and imagining the spirit carrying the light to lure travellers to join her in death...

I like it. Looks like a real 19th century fairy-tale illustration.

That is so neat! Ha, you know, except running a sketchbook, I also keep a list of things that I'd like to draw or that could inspire me to draw something. This Will o' the Wisp has been bugging me for such a long time, probably since I read The Two Towers, which was quite a long ago. Oh my, it's been 10 years o.O Hah, I need to do something with it at last.

I really like the composition as well as the dress. The spots on the trees are a nice touch. And isn't salt just fun?

ooh thankyou I'm glad you like it! Can't wait to see your interpretation (when you get through your list of things to draw haha!)

Salt is great - I discovered a little herb and spices shop round the corner from my house a few weeks ago, and it has all sorts of different salts, about 20 I think, and they are all different grain sizes and shapes and textures. I got a little bag of one called 'himalayan black salt' which gives quite random and interesting texture - much better than the table salt I'd been using up until now! I think I am quite spoiled with this lovely shop

20 kinds of salt. Holy crap! I can choose only between the table salt and coarse salt unless I'd like to try the one you add to a bath... Himalayan black salt sounds like something that could be featured in a very bad and dark grimoire. Does it look like gray diamond chips?

haha yes it would be perfect for a grimoire! oh the spells I could think of that use it... it does look a bit like grey diamond chips. I've put a pic in my scraps here [link] so you can see I am really keen to go back to the shop and try a few more different types of salt now to see what patterns I can come up with!

Ahhh, now I envy you so much. Maybe there is a similiar shop in a city nearby, but I have no idea where should I look first. Oh. Maybe it's not that bad, I still have my hand made lilac soap

ooh handmade lilac soap, how lovely! a friend suggested I should try making salt crystals. Apparently if you leave a piece of string in salty water interesting shaped crystals will form on it... [link]

Ah, it's an experiment that every kid does in primary school in Poland (: I should try it for the paintings, then.

I'd love to see how it goes if it makes interesting salt crystals that are usable with the watercolours
