Description watercolour

this is supposed to be a present for my little sis, but since she has a DA account and is watching me, I don't think it will be much of a surprise! So, Mimi, what do you think of it?!

There's a pic showing the three drafts I went through before I got one I liked over here:

i love this, it has those old storybook feelings when I saw it. Such dreamy quality
It reminds me of my storybooks that I have when I was a kid....
(p.s. sorry for my bad english..I'm working on it hahahaha)

I like the little guy behind the tree. Peeking around mischievously.

John Bauer was a swedish artist from the early 20th century who illustrated a lot of fairytales about trolls, gnomes etc - they're absolutely gorgeous illustrations See more here [link] . Who is Eddie Bauer?

I liked the salty sky a lot, what caused the change? I'm jealous of this grass.

Haha thanks I liked using the salt on the sky as well, but I couldn't get the stars bright enough, and I couldn't get an even background - the paint sank into the paper too quickly for me to do a wash while still going carefully around details like the telescope. Not quite sure how to get around that - do you have any ideas?

Soaking the paper first, perhaps? And In case the start weren't bright enough, I'd wait until it all dries and just mark some tiny spots with a white gel pen or arcylic paint, leaving the nice salt texture - it'd make the whole sky look more "enlightened" (:

Mmmn, I'll have to try it again with the next sky I think. I like the salt effect, and it would be a lot more realistic if it was less even!
